Puppy fang flimsy Isn't teething over by 5 months? I just noticed that one of my puppy's fangs is flimsy but it doesn't seem to hurt her when I touch it. I noticed that it was already kind of hanging in her mouth, yet it doesn't seem broken nor rotten. |
Yorkies are notorious for retaining baby milk teeth. Whatever hasn't fallen out needs to be removed by the vet under anesthesia. This is usually done during the pup's spay/neuter surgery so they don't need to go under twice. If not removed, the retained baby teeth catches food particles between the teeth, causes odor & eventually tooth decay. Momo had double rows of teeth on top like jaws & he had 11+ removed! Playing tug of war also helps the teeth fall out if your pup likes that activity, it worked for us. I was playing tug of war w/Turbo w/his fav toy & a tooth just fell out as he was doing the killer shake.:D |
Thanks for the reply. She had her last puppy shot today and the vet told me that if the rest of the fangs didn't fall off in a couple of months then he will have to extract them. |
Max had 5 teeth pulled, including a 'fang', when he was neutered at 6 months of age. Perfectly normal. |
Sometimes I wonder if dogs can understand human language better than what most studies give them credit for. My vet reccomended me to play tons of tug o war with my pup and ever since we arrived home she has been doing nothing but begging me to play tug o war with her. Just today she has lost 3 more of her baby teeth. I'm also surprised big time by how quickly she recovered from her vaccines (Parvo/Hepatitis/Distemper). She only took a 1 hour nap (after playing tug o war for almost a hour) and then went back to her normal self for the rest of the day. Are short-legged yorkies generally way sturdier and more energetic? My puppy loves jumping around when we play, and sometimes she ends up falling badly when jumping too high, but so far my vet hasn't found a single fractured bone on her squareish body. And she also enjoys to play rough with our Golden. The only time she has cried is the one time my sister accidentally stepped on her foot, but she didn't limp or anythig so we didn't really worry about it. So far the only thing we forbid her of doing is jumping on our beds since they are a bit higher than the standard ones. |
Happy to hear more baby teeth came out on their own. My Yorkies are long-legged and very energetic. I do worry about their legs that resemble a race horse's. So far, no problems. Be careful with your little one playing rough with your Golden. Larger dogs and human big feet have caused many broken paws and legs in little Yorkies. |
