How much sleep should a 5 month old get? My puppy has been exercising a lot now that we got a yorkie-proof backyard and that we got more baby gates to keep her out of rooms where she could swallow something she shouldn't. She usually goes sleepy 3 times a day: around 12:00 PM, around 6:00 PM and 12:00 AM when I usually go to sleep. Whenever she feels drowsy she just goes straight to her bed or inside of her kennel. Is this normal behaviour for a pup of her age? She's quite big and gaining weight at a good rythm, but I'm still worried that she could suffer of low sugar episodes. I've checked her gums and so far I've noticed no changes. If anything I'm worried about how sometimes she has tremors while sleeping, but I was told by my vet (he raises Pugs) that smaller dogs dream more often than the bigger breeds. She's quite the big eater now, so I can't help but wonder if her sleeping a bit more has more to do with her greater food consumption rather than her being free to run around he house with her toys and getting daily walks (we didn't want to take her out for walks before she had all her puppy shots) I might be really overreacting again because I do remember my lab (we got him when he was 8 months old) sleeping most of the day when he was a pup, but that was almost 10 years ago, so I'd rather not fully trust my memory. I might also be seriously overestimating the amount of energy possesed by these little guys. Sometimes even I believe that she's a big dog because of her way of acting. |
By the way, she has also been chewing nothing, or at least we think she's trying to get rid of her baby teeth. Is this really normal during pups teething? I read somewhere that getting rid of a baby teeth and swallowing it is usually followed by a single dry cough., and she has been doing that some days. |
I'm not sure about the teeth. Barney lost his easily. As far as sleeping, that seems very normal to me. Barney sleeps in our bed. When he is tired or just wants alone time (when we have visitors), he'll just sneak off and go take a nap in our bed. |
