Don't keep offering different things...she will continue to wait to get what she wants. You must be firm with her! Yes, some foods will be more pleasing to them....you can switch .. just call them on Monday and ask what else to use. Maybe just get her the canned food?


I put the canned food down Thursday and she ate it. I put it down last night, she walked away. Put it down this morning, she walked away. Put kibble down this evening, she walked away. I don't know...she's always been a good eater and now she eats nothing. Cathy, I don't sneak all of my food, I just feel bad when she watches me eat.

But, I don't get this part, she seems more active, she wants to be around us. When we go for walks, instead of lagging behind, she is at the front with Buster...

Call on Monday and get it changed. See if that works. Some of them are just difficult...my Olivia is like that. I don't change her food though...what I do now is mix both canned and kibble and that way she can eat what she wants out of the two.

I wonder if maybe Maggie is just not feeling so hot. Olivia is like that when she is not feeling well. That can happen when they have liver and/or kidney issues.

I'll call Monday and see if I can get it changed....I would expect this out of Buster, he's very picky, but not Maggie...

I haven't read the entire thread so don't know - but have you tried hand-feeding her? And just "priming the pump" by opening her mouth and putting a tiny bit of food inside her mouth or rubbing it on the outside of her lips? I've used all of those methods to get a dog started eating after them refusing to eat for hours of being sick. Then, I think after their nausea from the illness is better, the super empty stomach keeps them feeling nauseated and I wonder if lots of time gas will make them feel full. Sometimes even if they they have no interest at all if food is put down for them to self-feed, they will begin to slowly eat when they are helped along.

If she's still nauseated but just not sick enough or too empty to vomit, maybe a dose of Cerenia or whatever anti-nausea medication you have at home for her will decrease her nausea enough to allow her to eat a few hours after the dose.

The last email I received from Dr. Jones said that I could give her some chicken, I hand fed her some chicken this afternoon. I baked some canned food this morning and hand fed her what she would eat of that.

Are you favoring Buster over Maggie, or does Maggie get your attention first? The reason I ask is bc Peek was attacking Tinkerbell for a while, and I started giving him less attention and was mad with him a lot. Nothing I did stopped him, in fact he got worse and his attacks increased in frequency. Then I threw my hands in the air out of desperation and did the exact opposite, started giving him more good attention, and his behavior improved dramatically.

Maggie is doing much better! I switched her to the Purina EN. The canned food smells, looks and feels much better than the Hill's. She doesn't eat a lot but she's eating. I don't have the Purina kibble yet, she's still eating the Hill's kibble. I had to ask for the Purina kibble to ordered. Keep your fingers crossed...

I was giving Buster a lot of attention as he has had so many problems with his leg. Last July, he had a tibia tuberosity, five weeks later the pins broke, three days later, he fractured his knee. I had to take him in weekly to get his leg wrapped, he had to be carried at home, etc. He received a lot of attention. I tried to give Maggie a lot of attention but obviously she did not get as much as he did. Things have gotten better in the attacks but I'm always on guard...

That is great news! I hope she likes the Purina kibble more too.
