What are the experts out there in YT land using, 'cause I need to switch his food then??

If your dog is doing well on Blue Buffalo, there is no need to switch. Our Bella didn't have any problems with it, although we did eventually switch over to Wellness Core Grain Free for small breeds. She is doing the same on Wellness as she did on Blue Buffalo.

I have been giving Max and Sasha the Blue Bits (training treats) from day one. They both love it and we have never had a problem. I don't use their food.

According to the package blue bits are:

"made with the finest natural ingredients, have no chicken (or poultry) by product meals and are corn, wheat and soy free."

That is why I chose this treat. Should I not believe them?

Good to know... thanks! I haven't noticed him not doing well on BB but, having said that, what problems should I be looking for?

Look for things like diarrhea or constipation, vomiting, low energy level, lack of appetite, and signs of allergy like excessive scratching and biting of the legs or other body parts. If your dog is healthy, playful, and has normal stools and a healthy appetite, he's probably doing fine. Of course, at any signs of illness, consult a vet.

The reason we switched from Blue Buffalo to Wellness Core Grain Free Small Breed is because we thought it might make Bella's eyes less watery. We haven't noticed any difference, but since she loves the Wellness Core, we haven't switched her back to Blue Buffalo.

Thanks for sharing that... sure good to know. Phew, my Bailey is doing well. I monitor his daily 'routines' to see of any change. So far, so good.

I switched my dogs from blue buffalo to wellness. They had runny stool on bb. I just didn't feel that food was right.

Each dog is different. If you find a food that works for your dog, it's best to stay on it. Bella did well on Royal Canine, Blue Buffalo, and Wellness. Those are all good foods. Whichever works best for you.

I heard talk of bb using ingredients from China and to many of the life source bits have made dogs extremely sick. I would not use any of there products.

I remember than when a BB representative was posting on Yorkietalk, they were very cagey about the source of their ingredients. They would neither confirm nor deny a China origin, but swore that they tested their ingredients thoroughly, regardless of the source.

One thing that got me to change from BB is I bought a bag of BB that didn't have ANY lifesource bits in it. All of my other bags were fine. I've also heard of people getting bags that contained nothing but lifesource bits. It looks like they have issues with ingredient blending, or at least they did in the past. For those feeding BB, if the blend doesn't look right, take it back to the store for a refund. Hopefully BB has gotten their act together by now.

I just wish they would fix it so that the companies that stand to profit from using sub par ingredients in the first place weren't the ones in charge of ensuring pet food quality.

Seems like a Fox Hen house thing to me. WHat was the outcome of the lawsuit? I just posted a thread of suggested foods and BB was one of them. I'd hate to pst something inaccurate and will make changes if the suit was proven against BB. Anyone know?

I didn't know about the BB rep posting here but it concerns me about her being evasive about the origin of the ingredients. I'm glad I quit feeding it. we got a bag that was about 50/50 life source bits and kibble last summer. Daisy was having a lot of tummy upset. I was picking out life source bits by hand because it didn't look right. I called the company and the rep acted like it was no big deal, she said it happens when one of the chutes run out of either kibble or life source bits, then the bag fills up with the contents of the other chute. The rep admitted the the high number of life source bits were probably causing the tummy aches. Then we found out Daisy has some elevated liver enzymes but the vet can't determine the cause.

My vets don't recommend BB so I quit feeding it. Sorry if I posted this same info in this thread. I didn't go back and read the whole thing. But I was surprised to see BB on that recommended list of food.

Sorry, I misspoke. It was a Royal Canin representative who posted here. My memory is not as good as it should be :(. Here is the RC thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...questions.html

Thank you for the clarification. Speaking of memory not being as good as it used to be.....we won't even go there. Lol. I have the same problem, believe me.

My main problem with Blue Buffalo was the poor quality control. I am not happy with a company that will send food bags out that are mixed wrong. The rep said that the life source bits should be 7% or 8% of the bag. Their quality control is really lacking here if you ask me. They sent me a free bag of treats to compensate me. What about the pain my baby experienced with several days of tummy aches? And how do I know that the treat recipe was mixed correctly and it won't give my pooch a tummy ache? The rep stated that they are aware that the bags are mixed wrong when this happens. Her attitude was a flip.... "it happens". I guess they rely on the consumer to be their quality control. I returned the bag to petsmart and never bought it again. I am not happy with this company.

Oh, Castor and Pollux pulled that on me when I purchased a bag of food that was clearly not the right food. Well, actually mine was worse because they tried to tell me that the food was the same but the bag was different. No, the bag was the same and it was the wrong food...she got "flip" with me. I tossed it out. Not long after that, Merrick's bought them out and I totally refuse to give that company any business after viewing all of the recalls they have had. It was after that that I consulted with a vet nutritionist about what foods to use because I started getting really creeped out by all of these companies and the recalls.
