Merrick grain Free Hello All, Just switched Benny over to the Merrick grain free line, from the Chicken soup for the soul, that he was getting bored with. My question is does anyone else have any experience with Merrick? What is the benefit of grain free? I havent noticed a major difference, other then his poopy doesnt smell as bad lol. He does kibble for breakfast, and wet for lunch. They have lots of varieties which he is loving! |
We use Merrick and Merrick's other line Whole Earth Farms (more cost-friendly with several grain-free options) in our wet food rotation. Toki does really well with the canned Whole Earth Farms, especially the stew ones. I do use the regular Merrick cans if I can find them on sale...I really like that they offer a small can option. The only formula I don't like is their Wing-a-ling. It has whole chicken wings in it that are supposedly softened by the canning process but I got a can of it once and tried to smash the bones with my fingers before giving it to the pups. I was surprised how sharp those bones still felt! It made me uncomfortable so I just pitched that can and don't buy that formula...the other varieties are pretty good though. Toki has enjoyed all of the ones we've tried :) Glad that Benny is enjoying his new food! |
Thank you for the post. Yeah so far, he really enjoys the turducken, and grannys pot pie wet canned food, and just started the dry grain free kibble this past weekend. So far so good. |
It would be a LOT better than Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul (CSFTDLS is made by and owned by Diamond). I'm glad it is working out and that your pup likes the new food! |
This is true. When we got him, he was on the CSFTDLS, so decided to keep him on it. I did read about the whole Diamond issue. Sucks cause I guess the Chicken soup brand used to be highly regarded. He picked a good time to get bored of it lol. |
We have the Merrick grain free beef in our diet rotation. My dogs loved it. To be honest, I'm not convinced that grain free is necessarily any better for a dog that doesn't have grain allergies. Mine always willingly dive in to their bowls when it's Merrick time, so it will stay in our rotation for that reason. |
Merrick grain-free duck/sweet potato kibble is the only kibble P-Nut can eat aside from Rx food that doesn't give him stomach/gi issues. So, to keep things somewhat simple, Pickles is eating it, too and they both love it. P-Nut's GI problems are much better than they were - he got royally sick from some other foods, even when trying a slow transition (Blue Buffalo, etc.). They love the wet food, too - Thanksgiving Dinner, Cowboy Cookout, etc. No Wing a Ling as mentioned before, the bones creeped me out. |
