question regarding feeding? Hi people and little furriers:) I am having some problems with feeding my little Pip she is 11mo wt aprox7pds . I am feeding her a freeze-dried food called Stella & Chewy's it is grain free as well as not having all the stuff you don't want artificial preservatives ,glutens color suger etc etc . She ate it really well at first and seemed to like it ,it comes in 4 or 5 different meat sources . I also give her raw bones from organic chicken as well as the meat she LOVES the bones ,I give them after she has eaten, partially frozen so she chews them well. In the last month or so she has been refusing to eat her food . I cut back on treats, she is eating a little more but not what she needs for proper health! I have tried mixing her organic chicken with the freeze-dried, but she just does not want to eat it . I even bought some Wellness puppy food ,she does not like it either . I cannot feed just raw chicken anybody have some advice for me???? |
Instead of freeze dried raw, have you tried progressing to raw frozen? That's what I feed, and it does come in chicken (if that's what she is liking) and other flavors too. Perhaps she is telling you she prefers the PMR diet (Prey Model Raw)...? Also, have you tried moistening the freeze dried with either water or low sodium broth? Also, try sprinkling Parmesan Cheese on it - it's nice and pungent and is often very enticing to dogs. |
thanks , I have tried all those things as well as coconut oil (as she loves that ) but no go .I will try the frozen food next , I hope that works ,I want to feed her the best food I can find . I am also looking for a multi-vitamin for her,she has a 'trick' knee so I also need to find something for her joints. My vet has not been very helpful at all ! I am so glad to have the Yorkie talk people to help me !! THANKS |
It may not be the food - I'd get her vet checked if her appetite is waning. Have him run some blood tests and a fecal, maybe, and check her over. |
