Itchy Ears Hi, my little guy Biscuit is almost 5 months. I noticed in the last week that he's been scratching at his ears. Usually whenever he wakes up, but I've noticed it more often during the day. Today when I picked him up, I noticed a funky smell coming from his right ear. I did a little Internet research, but wanted to get you guys opinions. Could it be a yeast infection? Is this something that needs to be treated by my vet? I've been trying to clean his ears with my ear cleaner, but I must admit I haven't been doing it as often as the bottle suggested. |
It could be yeast, but you should really let the vet diagnose it bc the treatment for different things are different. Anytime a funky smell or off color is involved, it could be a sign of infection & a vet visit is in order. |
Bentley has been scratching his left ear. The vet saw it was inflamed and thought it was ear mites, but when she swabbed she couldn't see any. My Lakeland was like this and it was an allergic reaction to corn in his food. We changed his food and his ears got better |
Definitely needs to be checked out by the vet. |
It could be yeast, but it could also just be dirty. If the smell is really that noticeable, then I would go to the vet bc if it's fungal, you'll need a prescription ointment for the infection. You could try OTC ear cleaner...if you do, find one that is also drying to the ear so that it pulls out moisture. |

Just got back from the vet with my 4 month old Lexi. She had the same symptoms. She took a swab of the yucky stuff in his ear to check for mites or yeast. Ended up being a bacterial infection. Definitely go see the vet b/c it could be a number of things and each one needs a different treatment. |
Ear Infection Thanks for all the replies. Both of his little ears were infected. He's on medicated drops for 2 weeks. Hope this provides some relief for him pretty quickly. |
