Zeutering?
 
My dog is over a year old and still has his "business" because he can't go under anesthesia. I heard about Zeutering when it was first tested on some shelter pups a little while back and haven't seen anything negative about it yet. I want to neuter Piyo but since he can't go under I know this is the next best option, before I inject him with anything; has anyone had any experiences with zeutering??

I think that it would be an excellent alternative for a dog that cannot undergo anesthesia.

Why can't he go under anesthesia? I don't think it s offered for dogs over a year old. If I remember correctly it is only approved for 10 months and under so I believe your window of opportunity has past.

His liver isn't strong enough to go under anesthesia. He's healthy and everything, no liver shunt but the vets just didn't recommend it. (We had bloodwork/labwork done and had 3 consultations done to see if he could be neutered). I would have to pull up his paperwork to find the exact reason as to why but we'll just leave it at they don't think it's worth the risk. Yes I read that 3-10 month bit too but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask a vet anyway.

Thank you for that link, unfortunately that's just people's opinions on whether they would have it done or not...:/

I was hoping someone could give feedback on whether they had had a positive or negative experience with this new procedure.

My aunts dog had liver issues they eventually did her spay but flushed her liver after maybe that is something they could do. Have you looked into a specialist?

I did some reading up, and Zeuterin is still only FDA approved for puppies aged 3 to 10 months. I read an article where the company that makes it is trying to get approval for dogs of all ages, but that hasn't happened yet. If you go to the manufacturer's web page, you will find lots of information. Apparently, the risk of adverse events is less than for traditional castration.

I wasn't even aware that was an option! (flushing the liver after) Thanks a lot, I'll look into it!
