Skin Problem - Picture Attached 1 Attachment(s) Hello Everyone, I'm new to the forum :) My girlfriend and I have 2 litter mate yorkie pups that are 11 months. They're very healthy and energetic, but the little girl has a little round skin problem on her neck behind her left ear. We noticed this about 2-3 months ago. It's a little raised and has scabbed over, but doesn't seem to bother her when you touch it or pet her. She hasn't had hair on the spot since we noticed it. The vet prescribed us very strong oral medication that was supposed to reduce the 'swelling' (its not really swelled, just raised). The doctor also prescribed her a ointment that we used for over a week and noticed very little difference. At this point, we're not sure what it is. We know it isn't bacterial from what the vet said and the tests he did on her. They could do a biopsy, but that would be $800, or completely remove it for $900. We've already spent about $400 on trying to figure out what it is, and we still don't know! I think that's all the details I have for you guys. If anyone can help us out, please let us know as we're a little worried. It doesn't seem to be bothering her, or spreading, so we're going to leave it until we paid off the last vet bill. lol Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Adam |
Did they grow it out in culture for 10-14 days to make sure it wasn't ringworm? Welcome to YT, btw :)! |
That looks similar to a spot my dog had... I put coconut oil on it after cleaning it with Betadine while waiting for our vet appointment. It cleared 90% so I cancelled the appointment, within the week it was all gone. |

My Marcel caught ringworm from his vet when he was a puppy, and it looked VERY much like the picture you attached. It also was on his head, which is not uncommon for ringworm. That said, if it's a very 'raised' bump...that in itself doesn't sound ringwormy. |

We're leaving it for now and treating it with home remedy's. It doesn't seem to bother her other than scratching her neck every so often. We can't afford a $900 vet bill to get it removed right now. It could be just a skin issue that doesn't effect her I guess. Let's hope it stays that way. |
It could be ring worm, the hair is missing & that is a symptom of ringworm. Sometimes the area will be raised as well. You can try any kind of over-the-counter ointment for jock itch & if it's ringworm you will notice a diff in about a wk. |

I had ringworm myself a year or so ago and the doctor prescribed me a cream that got rid of it in a couple of weeks. I wonder if I should start using that on her. :s |
First thing I thought was ringworm, try applying coconut oil or colloidal silver |
I'm not convinced it is ringworm. How does it look now? My Doodlebug had a little bump on his back thigh. At first it was not very noticable and I thought it might be a pimple but it grew larger and looked a lot like your picture. Raised and slightly red. When I took him to the vet he said that it needed to come off because it looked suspicious. The fact that your vet suggested removal Quote:
