Seresto Flea/Tick Collar Anyone use it? Seresto® | PetParents I am wondering if this could be a good alternative for ticks in the summer. Or if something like this can just be used temporarily... say if I know I am going hiking in Gettysburg (last year, we had nearly 50 of ticks on us all, UGH). It says it lasts up to 8 months but I wouldn't keep it on him 24/7. It seems much safer than the typical flea/tick collars you see in stores. This is also made by the people who make Advantage and Advantix. |
Reading through the reviews on Amazon, sounds like the collar works the same way that the topical flea and tick preventatives do, by delivering pesticides into the dog's body/system. Thus, putting the collar on for brief periods would not be effective. Many people wrote that the collar took at least a week to be effective against ticks. Several reviews said the collar did not work on long hair dogs. The collar must sit against the skin. A few reviewers said their dogs had skin reactions, similar to complaints with topical preventatives. On the plus side, reviewers said that the collar succeeded where Frontline and others had failed with fleas and ticks. |
My friends's vet recommended that she use on her four small dogs last year. It worked great for her, much better than Advantix II. The previous year they never had fleas, but almost daily she saw a tick crawling on one of her babies after taking them for a walk. These collars kept both fleas and ticks off of her dogs. |
I'm just not comfortable with it, it's to close to the face and makes me nervous. |

we decided against using a collar, but if it helps, the one vet said they suggest you basically place the flea collar under the regular collar (my concern was my kids touching the collar) |
It's very thin, and with it being grey, it doesn't stand out. For dogs that are washed weekly or swim, the collar only lasts about five months. I know it works more effectively than many other topicals, but I think it's so ingrained in many of is about the dangers of the old flea collars, for me fear still exists. My friend is able to go for daily walks now that her dogs are wearing the Seresto collar, something she had to stop doing because of too many ticks. Her pups are immunized for Lyme Disease, but two of them got Anaplasmosis on more than one occasion before she started using the collar. |

I have so many allergies, but Frontline and Advantix II don't seem to bother me. My friend, however, had terrible reactions such as swollen eyes until she gave her dogs baths three days after Anvantix was applied. One of her dogs also scratched terribly. The Seresto collar does not bother her or any of her four dogs. It is so narrow and thin that it easily could be worn under a collar. I hate using any of these topicals, but I do to protect Katie. Katie got a tick on her last year, her only one, because I was dragging my heels to put Advantix II on her because I feared a reaction. She used Frontline the year before. If she had gotten sick, I would never have forgiven myself. I don't have a problem with fleas or ticks normally and never really have on my past dogs, but that's probably because I've used preventatives. I can't let my fears get in the way of protecting Katie properly. |

I use Revolution topical, but it doesnt protect against deer ticks. My Vet suggested using the Seresto Collar in combination with it. I ordered one, but am always uncomfortable with putting something on a 3.4 oz Yorkie that is also used on dogs under 18 lbs. I have read about seizures in small dogs, so.....what's a mother to do? :) |
