Allergies Do any of your babies have allergy problems? I cant even take my babies for a walk without my little one coughing and sneezing. He has a collapsed trachea and his allergies cause it to act up. :-( The vet said I could give allergy meds, but Im not sure about that. Are there any things that help your babies? Thanks for the help! |
Yes, we deal w/ allergies. Before treating them, it's nice to determine whether they're all year round, or seasonal. You could try OTC meds, but I never found them to do much at all -- but, they do work for some. The main ones used in dogs are Benadryl (have to give 3-4x day though, very inconvenient), Zyrtec, and Claritin. One thing to def try since you mentioned events sort of happen acutely during walks - is to give Benadryl 30mins prior to your walk and then see if that helps. If it's interfering w/ quality of life, I'd most def consider medicating. It's worth it to see them less miserable. Does he chew/lick his paws btw? Thanks for the help. Im not sure if his are just seasonal. With all the snow we had, he wasnt outside too much this winter, other than on the balcony. He doesnt lick his paws alot. Usually only when hes cleaning them. |
dog Be sure you do not have any type of harness around his neck that pulls on his trachea. Get that buddy belt if you walk him. It is the best. All yorkies should have one because of that awful tracheal cough. |
Arent buddy belts the same as step in harnesses? Thats what he has now. I like the buddy belts but I hate the actual belt part of it. |
