Dehydrated raw . . Are they good? I have been feeding Galen dehydrated raw, Primal and Stella and Chewy in the evening. (Taste of the Wild in morning) I was told this weekend that there is too much bones in dehydrated raw and it is no good for their insides. I was told to add meat and veggies to it. First I started to feeding the dehydrated raw because it was easier then raw. I can travel and not worry about refrigeration. Second I am giving only 3/4 of a piece a day. If I start cooking then the piece gets smaller. He doesn't get too much food because of his size. Question I post is has anyone had a problem long term and what is everyone's thought on it. . . . I am such a worry wort when it comes to him. I try to feed him the best. I don't want anything bad to happen to him. |
I was feeding my gang this trying to get them away from the bil jac but a month in and cedric just started throwing it up so I had to stop and put them back on the bil jac. my vet didnt like the food and told me not to feed them the food. He was not a fan of raw at all in any form. |
Who told you that about the bones??? Sounds suspicious to me. It's likely that what you're feeding is AAFCO certified, meaning it's balanced for dogs. I really highly doubt there are "too much bones" in it. And btw, I'd like to ask the person "what IS the perfect amount of bones, btw?"...lol :D. Ground up bones are great for dogs in raw food. |
First, they are not raw before they are dehydrated. Some admit this and some don't. Honest Kitchen does and so does Gramma Lucy. Second, some of these foods have unsafe levels of mineral content which they don't disclose, namely Stella & Chewy. |

I just switched my boy Jackson (Maltese) to Stella &Chewy's dehydrated. I fed NV raw for four years until Zoey had her second bout of pancreatitis and had to be put on a rx diet. Jackson has a rock gut and can eat anything. I think most vets do not like raw diets. When Zoey had a X-ray the doc asked me if I was feeding her bones because they glowed on the film. That is when I told him that she ate raw and he said "ok". I don't think ground up bones will do them harm or the companies would go out of business. |
I fed two shih tzus frozen raw Instinct for about 5 years. My 9 month old Biewer will not eat frozen. I feed Stella and Chewy freeze dried raw, and he loves it. The bone is ground very fine. I do add water to the freeze dried. Stella and Chewy has good reviews on a lot of websites. I know some don't agree with feeding raw, but my dogs have done great on it. |
I spoke to another reputable breeder that feeds raw. I told her that primal Bone Content ≅ 10% except for beef and lamb wich is 6%. She said that it is about right and so no need to worry. I am so happy. Some of you know how much of a problem I was having with Galen eating. I finally found something he liked ! |

Maybe try switching proteins to something he's never had? Many vets are not fans of raw food bc they simply do not understand it. Those that do are all for it, I'm lucky my vet is a raw feeder himself. He has several cats & a 1 eyed lab, all on raw food. Can I ask who gave you this information. I believe them to be ill informed. Dogs diets do not require veggies if you plan on feeding raw. There are great dehydrated raw products out there and from what I see on your list, you've found several of them. Dogs need 80% muscle meat (that includes heart) 10% bone and 10% organ meats of which 5% should be liver. Most companies selling high quality premade raw usually take this into account. Some of them add veg, herbals and fruits. That is truly your call. My boys do not get fruit and veg as part of their meals. Bones provide calcium and also are the binding agent in poops. My boys eat ground meat bones and organ for breakfast and then whole meat at dinner. I do this to ensure they are getting enough bone content to keep their poops nice and tidy. |

Miniminomo, I was at my friends for dinner last week and took a lovely organic steak with me for dinner, some of which was being chopped up for Teegy and Tufty. Well the six other dogs that were there went mental. I ended up with less steak than I had originally planned for because, with their owners approvals, they all had a few wee nibbles from my steak. |
