2 month old's diet? HELP... So, I'm the newest of newbies when it comes to pets. Serena is my first pet, and I live in South Korea. I can't find many people who can clearly tell me in English what to do. My girl, Serena, is now 8 weeks old. I am currently feeding her 3/8 cup of Royal Canin puppy food mixed with some milk. (That's what the pet store vet told me to do...) On the bag of food, it only goes up to 8 weeks? Do I have to change her diet soon? I'm nervous about messing this up because she's a living animal! |
Hi, Welcome to YT! Is this milk from a cow, pasteurized milk? Most dogs are lactose intolerant & can't digest cow's milk, but they can digest goat's milk. Raw goat's milk would be best, great for puppies. I'm sure you can get it locally or from a local farm near by. You don't really need to supplement pups w/milk, as long as they're eating their food, it can be moistened w/warm water to make it soft. It has all the needed vitamins, minerals & calcium in the dog food. Puppies can eat puppy formula (or all life stages for any age) food until they're a year old. |
Stick with what you are feeding her there is not need to change her food and actually it would do more harm than good. At her age she needs a good nutritional diet that contains vitamins and calcium in order to grow strong bones and help her teeth. She should be on the same puppy food you are feeding her now for up to one year. If at that time you change try and find the same brand in an adult food but for small breeds. Also at her age she should be eating hark kibble, there is no need to water it down especially not with cows milk. If you must water it down do so with water or goats milk. |
I would keep her on a puppy food until at least 6mths old. Are you saying the food you have is meant only for pups who are 8wks and younger? If so, that'd be a really unusual food. If that's the case, I'd probably switch foods once she becomes nice and settled in her new home...I'd give her at least 2 weeks to get settled. She doesn't need milk and in fact it may unbalance her diet. Perhaps wean her off of it if you're comfortable doing that? As long as she is eating her dog food, her diet should be balanced correctly. |
