Dental ? Tooth care. I have tried for so long to brush his teeth. It is not happening. I was looking for something else to keep his teeth clean. My vet recommended C.E.T. HEXTRA Premium Chews for Dogs. Thoughts? |
CET Chews are nice - there are 2 types that have different chemicals that do different things, so I'd recommend getting both types. I get mine on Amazon bc of price. One thing though - SIZE UP. DON'T get the 'petite' size - my Marcel almost died from chewing a piece off of the petites (which are more fragile than the larger sizes) and was a few seconds from choking to death. You can also think about Healthy Mouth (VHOC approved), Wysong Denta Treat Powder, Plaque Off, PetzLife, Leba III ($$$)...and I can't recall the other available products. I also like RMBs (raw meaty bones) for healthy, challenging chewing/gnawing. I like the Bison Back Rib bones from Whole Foods (in the Pet Freezer). And I use a few other misc chews too. |
What did you find works the best. You know Galen is a PITA. Oh I wish I had a whole foods near me. I loved that place. |
Jackson hates -- I mean HATES having his teeth brushed. He used to RUN from me, it was like he just knew... even if I tried to be sneaky about it. I had to slowly train him to accept it, and he now follows me into the bathroom and while he doesn't like it (at all), I "force" it (but he's not 'fighting' me, he just tries to put his head down, etc) but he willingly walks into the bathroom and knows it's coming... sooo... I know that he knows he gets a good treat (he gets a bit of cheese for teeth brushing). Brushing really is best. Otherwise, I would use HealthyMouth water additive. It's the only water additive that has been trialed and tested, proven, etc. Check out their site. You can put it in water or pour over food. I use the HealthyMouth gel but it's somewhat messy. I apply it with a q-tip but it's a very thick green material (and not very "gel like") but it does seem to work. My vet suggested Wysong Dentatreat be poured over his kibble, I can't tell if it's working or not, but... he likes it. |

I have been trying since he was a pup. He fights me. I would need me and the DBF to brush them. It is not worth it. I saw the healthy mouth. I was wondering if it really works. Also it is good for cats and dogs. Everyone drinks out of all the bowls. |

Yea . . . That will never happen lol |

I've tried Healthy mouth a # of times. The spray and the gel are impossible to use and the water additives were rejected by my dogs in both cat and dog flavor. I wanted to use the product but not at the expense of my dogs refusing to drink water. |

I was a grooming show a week ago and a got some samples of Zymox dental gel and water additive. I am going to try it. The woman was really nice. She said here try this before you order. You never know if they will like it. I though that was nice of her. She could have just sold it to me. So I will let you all know if he drinks it. And also if the cats do too . . . |
