How do you organize meds? Curious because I always second guess whether I gave them or not. I'd chart it, but that would last two days max. Thinking of an am/pm pill separator. Actually, I am much better about doing her pain meds than my meds. lol Or are you blessed with a perfect memory? |
When Max had to have eye drops several times a day, I kept a small notepad next to the bottle with the times listed that he needed the drops. I would cross out the time when I gave him the med. My memory was sufficient the first go around, but after many more, all of the days started blending into one. |
My poodle needed meds 3x a day, I had 3 weekly pill organizers. Yellow for morning, purple for dinner, and blue for at night. Her pills were also kinda complicated so I always refilled them before they ran out. |
I write it down on a notepad and put that pad right beside the medicine. Only way I can reliably keep track. |
I forgot, back when she just needed 1 pill twice a day for her epilepsy I didn't use anything. Didn't need to, there was no way the poodles would let us forget their morning cheese or wet food dinner. |
I use a med administration sheet. |
I have a several-page section in my Appt. Book every year where I chart every dosage of all medications, including the date and time and route it was given to Tibbe and have kept the log since I've had him. Without charting, I think I would forget past times and so forth. It's always with me wherever I go. When he's ill or out of sorts, I also chart his symptoms such as avoiding food, loose stool or vomiting and their date and time there also. |
I used a write on/wipe off calendar stuck on the fridge, that way I know when to stop any med, or how many days left to give it, and it helps me to know what day it is. I put a tiny square and the med name or names (if multiple meds for that time slot) or abbreviation next to it. In the corner of the calendar I made a key to the meds, like name, color, and amount (1/4, 1/2 or 1 tab) for quick reference cause I'd spend 1/2 hour just trying to read the darned bottles! Then after I give them, I check the box, and move the bottles to the front for the next dose, and set a kitchen timer for however many hours till the next dose. |
I keep all the pills in little glass bottles and dispense from those at a.m. and p.m. meals. If I had a TID or QID med, then I'd absolutely have to either use a pill caddy or a med sheet. |

Last year I had a book when I got slammed with a bunch of really, really sick pups at one time. |
Lucky for me, my vet treats me like an infant and doles out the dosages for me so that I cannot make any mistakes :) and do not need a system in place. Maybe he has a point. I'm at the end of meds for the other dog and have too many of one left and the other med is empty. That means at least 5 days this month she had too many aspirins. Ooops. |
I use a pill box but Callie only has a half of a thyroid pill in the morning and half at night with a joint supplement. |

Perhaps the pharmacist didn't count them correctly. Ask you know who to dole them out one day at a time for you. |

Well, he can hook you up with that too. Just breathe it in fast. They like to leave early. |
