atopic dog skin disease / lying Bacterial infection My fourteen yearold Yorkie has been having a terrible itch for almost 3 years. I have tried to find the answer but can’t . He has had a skin scrap and i was told it was under lying Bacterial infection. He is on Betamox as he won’t take tablets, and I wash him every other day in Malaseb Shampoo He has had steroid injections which really help but i know they aren’t good for his kidneys. Should i let him have injections so he is comfortable. I am in the UK and have ordered Be Soothed for him . Would evening primrose oil help |
I would look into treating him with Simplicef (cefpodoxime proxetil) for 30 days -- that's the gold standard treatment for pyoderma (bacterial infection/staph intermedius). As far as longer term and the shots...it depends...do you expect this to be chronic? In other words, has it been going on for a long time? If so, do you think it's allergy related? If allergy related, then you'd want to consider Atopica or Apoquel, antihistamines, Temaril-P, steroids, or allergy testing and desensitization shots. What is Be Soothed? No idea if primrose would help. You do want to be giving a good fish oil though. |
atopic dog skin disease / lying Bacterial Be Soothed is a shampoo and there is a spray to soothe skin. http://www.1800petmeds.com/Be+Soothed+Shampoo-prod11160.html I am making a note of all treatments as the vet just seems to give out a few, so I will research this one and ask about it. I have tried every test and he doesn't seem to react to anything |
