Long nails My neighbor's little terrier has very long nails. She said that the vet doesn't want to clip them very much at each visit because the quick has grown so close to the tips. The nails can't keep growing so what would you suggest she should do? Scooter's are short, short because he's constantly doing laps around the pool on the concrete and that keeps them nice and trimmed. |

The best thing to do is to cut them as close to the quick as possible and then do it again every two weeks. This helps the quick to retract back. Another option is to have a groomer or vet use a dremel to get the nails even shorter. |
If the dog needs to be put under for anything, have them do it then. I had a foster who's nails were so long she could not walk. Had her nails done while under for her dental. I thought they would just take off a bit but were able to take off a lot more than I thought they could. She was happy and could walk and run after that! |
Thanks I'll tell her. Poor little dog. |
