Will be eagerly awaiting...so w/out this info, they can't do anything? I thought all that info would be in the UPC code.

I wrote them also expressing my concern, they have not responded. Unfortunately I am at their mercy a bit, I hope the bag I just got has dog food in it or I don't know what I will do. CC is the only food I can find that works for both my yorkies.

This is disappointing. I hope that CC does something about this.

This food shouldn't be used anyway. The calcium and phosphorous are off the charts and extremely unhealthy. The amounts are above the levels that are legal to sell.

Here is the reply sent to me by CC:

Thank you for your concern. We take this and any inquiry on our products very seriously. Canine Caviar was made aware of this situation from a post on our Facebook page. We started an immediate investigation. The investigation is still in progress and will continue until we are confident the issue has been resolved. We are dedicated to the proper nutrition and wellbeing of animals and especially our pets. High quality and safety is of the upmost importance.

Our kibble is produced on demand in small batches with a minimum of 10 tons per batch and shipped directly to distributors in full pallet quantities, approximately 1000 pounds. They ship to the retail locations and online stores weekly. This ensures fresh product is always available to our consumers.

The best buy date was not immediately available to direct our research. We contacted the online retailer and the distributor and both inspected several new bags of food from different batches to ensure the correct product was in the bags. The mill that manufactures the food was contacted and they are participating in the investigation. All research to date has shown the product was produced and packaged correctly.

Once the expiration date was made available we were able to narrow down the timeline for the investigation. The food in question was manufactured and shipped to the distributor in September of 2013. Both the distributor and online retailer have sold and shipped all the product from that batch.

We have received one complaint worldwide of cat food in a dog food bag. This is from a batch of 10,000 pounds of food that has been on the market and in consumers’ homes for four months. We do take this seriously will continue with our investigation. We are doing everything possible to ensure the proper protocol is followed and every precaution is taken to ensure the highest quality product is presented to our consumers.

I was checking about this. . . . The thing they do not realize is that most people do not pay attention to what they are feeding their dogs. They just pour it in a bowl. We, Yorkie Talk, are a little anal about everything that has to do with our pups !

According to CC, they did an investigation and concluded that it was an isolated incident. They claim a dog food bag blew off the assembly line and ended up on on the cat food line. ........

Hello and Good Morning Marjorie – the investigation is completed and I wanted to share the results.



Store Level – they did not have any inventory of this squ and date.



Distribution Level – did not have any with you date code. But we did open up multiple bags with 2 other date codes and all was status quo.



Inquiries – we did not have any other inquiries or complaints world wide of cat food in a dog food bag.



Mill Level – the date code on the bag shows that yes it was Wild Ocean Cat food. So then went back to the batch reports as the system is fully automated and that showed Wild Ocean Cat. After going through all personal, reviewing records, video, we were finally able to pin point the error. What had happened is one bag was found and if you go to our website and look at a Wild Ocean Dog and a Wild Ocean Cat on the front are similar (this is changing as our grain free dog and classic dog will be a full front picture bleed and the cat will remain ½ picture on the front package so it is easier for everyone from manufacture, distribution, retail, to end consumer as we already started this in Oct of 2013 and should be on the market July of 2014) but one single bag was found and mill employee looked at the front and did not read but looked and placed the one empty bag on the pile of bags that were running or in production thinking it blew off the pile and not knowing it was a dog bag and cat bags were running so 100% completely accidental as the employee thought he was doing a good job picking up a bag and placing it back where he thought it belonged. Just so you understand the system is an man / forklift puts the empty bags in a certain spot, then the automated arm pics up one bag at a time, machine fills the bag, machine seals the bag, robotic arm pics up the bag and machine palletizes and wraps the pallet.



So end result is human error that we completely apologize for and have no problem replacing that 4.4 lb bag, but the error was a single empty bag was placed accidently in the wrong pile.



Moving forward correcting this problem that a SOP was written that any empty bag found just goes to the recycle bin and not to be filled. Then with our packaging change in a couple of months will also make it even easier to decipher between the different lines.



Marjorie, again our deepest apologies for this accidental single incident . Again if you would like a replacement bag we will just need to know which flavor same or different and address to mail it to as we use UPS ground.



I do want to thank you for your patience to let us do our due diligence and complete a full investigation.

How scary! And CC's lack of concern to the repercussions of your dogs health, I find disgusting. A single bag? Come on! What are the chances...sounds fishy.

No offer of Vet bills and others expense reimbursement? CC is on my list of "No Thanks" dog foods. I'll be starting with what breeder now feeds and if research proves its a great food will continue with it. Years ago fed Eukanuba until the Chinese poison additive incident on their Iams line, switched to Science Diet and used that ever since, feeding the Prescription Diet KD for the last 2 years and 4 months. Its amazing how many dog foods have Chinese ingredients to cut costs, sorry their QC is not up to my standards
