Yorkie vitamin deficiency? My Gizmo is 8-9 years old and he licks fabrics every chance he gets - couch, bed covers, metal legs.....what is going on? Anyone else have a dog gone lick crazy? |
My Cali will lick the bedspread. She seems to go in spurts. She won't do it for months and then will do it for awhile. She use to lick and bite at the carpet but she doesn't have access to it anymore since I put in wood floors. |
vitamin deficiency licking Its almost as if he wants to get a electrical shock from the fabric he licks, the plastic grocery bag, etc.....could it be a vitamin problem? |
You could have your vet do a blood panel but there are dogs who just like to lick |
Most likely it's a behavioral issue, either stress or boredom. |
My 10 month old Yorkie likes to lick everything also. I just figured it was a behavior trait. I do give her puppy vitamins as this use to help the larger dogs from eating strange things and objects. My pup still tries to eat strange things and she does not like the object taken away and does pout. In the summer she loved to lick my arm after sweating that salt content...When she wants something she will lick my face or my hand intensely until she is noticed..... |

Just try to train him away from that as you don't know what furniture is finished with and older antique finishes are known to contain arsenic. |
Is this something that he started recently? If yes, a vet visit is in order, underlying medical condition must be ruled out...many dogs in digestive distress excessively lick...everything. Here's a very good informative link: Help! My dog licks everything - Veterinary Medicine |
