Nervous when left alone - Pooping and Peeing Our almost 3 year old boy yorkie has had this problem for as long as I can remember. When he was a few months old and we kept him in the crate often, he would poop in his crate when he either felt alone or was left alone. Now that he's older we let him have free roam of the downstairs (kitchen, tile and living, hardwood). We ALWAYS take him out before we leave and he usually pees and/or poops. We can be gone for 15 minutes and he will have one of these mishaps. If we're gone for longer periods of time it's almost a given that we have to clean up when we get home. We don't scold him for it. I just don't know what we can do. He has toys, he has a comfy bed, he has plenty of room to run around, but for some reason we think he gets nervous and pees and poops while we're gone. Anything we can do to fix this? I find it weird that when he was a pup he would poop in his small crate. I didn't think most dogs poop or pee where they sleep and I had never seen it before. |
Dogs can't tell time Your baby just knows you aren't there, doesn't know if you will ever come back. My friends/relatives tell me how my baby looks constantly out the window when I am gone. It breaks my heart, but what can you do? Maybe try putting him in the same physical space much earlier while you are there and give him something he loves so he will connect the "away" space with goodies instead of abandonment. Just a thought. |
