How much / often should I feed my 6 week old Hello, I have a 6 week old yorkie name Athena. I have gotten her "Grain free wellness core for puppies." in canned food and "wellness , small breed, super5mix, just for puppies" dry kibble. I have been feeding her canned as her teeth have not come in completely yet, but I just starting to. It is my plan to switch her gradually to the dry kibble once they do. I have been feeding her about a tablespoon of wet food every four hours. She has been eating the canned food really well, however maybe too well. I have notice she is getting a bit pudgy, but then maybe thats good for a puppy? but in any case, im wondering how much I should be feeding her, an how often.?:animal-pa P.S she has been to the vet an does not have any worms, so thats not causing her to be pudgy. |
I have always read here that puppies cannot be overweight, that they typically won't overeat unless there is a health problem. At 6 weeks, they tend to look "pudgy." Usually Yorkies are not sent to their new homes at such a young age. Free feeding is often recommended for puppies, so frequent feedings are definitely good. When your pup is a little older, amount of food is determined by weight/size and activity level. You may want to post another thread in the breeders forum since they are better versed in how to care for a 6 week old. |
Oh my goodness this baby should still be with his mom until he is 12 weeks old. He needs to be feed every two hours to avoid hypoglycemia and you should feed him as much as he will eat in my opinion. Puppies can't be overweight. You need to make sure you have nutrical in case he gets hypoglycemic. |

I am fully aware that puppies shouldn't be away from their mother at this age. but life happens, and sometimes not in the way you want it to. Sometimes people do have young puppies of this age for reasons that can not be helped. Im sorry if that sounded rude. I dont mean for it to. but it seems i cant post any kind of a question on here without someone saying that. Some people have gotten quite rude without even asking the reason behind why i have her so young. That is not the case with you. But im hoping I wont have to keep explaining myself every time I ask a question. |
You can add water to the dry food and make it mushy and feed it to her. And every 4 hours should suffice at her age. |
welcome to yt, we need pics of your little one |
