Cannine Caviar changing their ingredients!!!! I started to order more Cannine Caviar and noticed they have added different ingredients . I liked CC because it seemed their ingredients were pretty simple....now they have a lot of other added ingredients. Going to have to go back and research. Have any other CC users noticed this ingredient change? |
What other ingredients did they add? I stopped feeding my guys CC. We switched to Nature's Logic once you mentioned it to me. I noticed that NL kibble gets rancid faster than any other kibble we've tried, maybe bc it's 'all natural'. |
Started my kids on CC last summer & wasn't sure I liked it. Bought a second bag in fall & they both immediately got diarrhea. Returned it & won't try it again. |
I e mailed CC this morning but haven't heard anything yet. I went to order more CC and noticed they now have an old and new forumula. The took out "Yeast Culture" on the new forumula and added about 3 new ingredients. I always thought "Yeast Culture" was kind of broad and generic so I'm hoping they deleted yeast culture and just listed out exactly what yeast cultures are in the food. I'm glad Natures Logic is working for you. I'll let you know when I hear back from CC. |
Teddy did well on the Open Sky but we can't get it locally unless we special order. I have read complaints recently on other forums about some pups who formerly did well on CC and were not tolerating newer bags. I wonder if it's related to the ingredient change. It's unfortunate because it was a good LID food that a lot of pups did well on. Please let us know if you hear back from CC. |
Wow that's sad...glad we didn't run into any problems. I think I was the only one that was buying the CC from our boutique lolll. The last bag I got was lamb & pearl millet & it was the OG tiny eraser head kibble size. I was thinking 'dang how long was this sitting on the shelf?!' I'd be surprised if they respond to your email... |
meh, I don't think they're anything special anyway. Their cancer claims and such are just a lot of marketing hype. It's way over priced for what it is honestly, but I know it worked for a few pups well, so hopefully it didn't change too much. |
I never heard back from CC yesterday and it wasn't a big surprise. I was always suspect of the generic term "yeast cultures" on the ingredient list. Their list now includes mixed tocopherols which is a natural preservative but the aspergillus niger fermentation culture, and other long words that end in culture are most likely a form of yeast culture. I wish I had access to an independent lab and could send samples of dog food for them to analyze. Boy....does that sound like a crazy dog lady or what???? Quote:

That doesn't sound like a big change, nothing major in their ingred. Maybe they'll respond to your email tomorrow (since it was the weekend)...I'll still be surprised lolll. |
Well, I'm surprised but I heard back from CC today. Below is their e mail to me. Julie Campbell JCampbell@caninecaviar.com 2:01 PM (0 minutes ago) to me Karen,The ingredients have not changed, but the way we are allowed to label them have. When we presented our new formulas just over 2 years ago, AAFCO required us to label our fermentation culture as a yeast culture. We had to show them it was not an active culture like yeast, and that it does not contain yeast. We have now done so and are making the changes to the packaging. The ingredients have been correct on our website. Thank you,Julie |
Thanks for sharing their response! This is kinda related but I was curious if anyone had heard any word about that buffalo kibble that they were going to release? They used to have it up on their website with a "coming soon" caption but it disappeared...I thought it'd be nice to rotate in an LID red meat food for Teddy but I wonder if they just completely nixed this kibble. |
This is what CC replied about buffalo kibble: We will have a new buffalo based kibble out late spring. We do have canned turkey available, it is for supplement only and not a complete diet. You can add some to your kibble or feed as a treat. If adding to the kibble I would reduce the amount of kibble you offer by the same amount of the canned meat. Duck is a really rich protein and adding more to it may be to much, especially for a small dog. Thank you,Julie |
Wow fantastic they responded! Thanks for the Buffalo news...mine are off kibble for now, but good to know. |
