Poll- What dog food do you feed your Yorkie? Hi everyone! I'm new just signed up for this.:-) Happy New Year to everyone! I recently adopted my Yorkie- Ruby from a shelter. She's a sweetheart! Was wondering what is a good dog food to feed her. Does anyone have any good recommendations? |
As far as kibbles go, I switch between Fromm, Wellness, Earthborn, and Natural Balance. We feed a wide variety of different canned/wet foods too...again, Earthborn's moist-entrees, Natural Balance Stews, Weruva, TikiDog, Hill's Ideal Balance, etc. Most of my foods I get from independent stores or Pet Supplies Plus. My PSP always has great deals and coupons...they also stock a good combination of bigger brands you'd find in a Petsmart/Petco (Wellness, Blue Buffalo, NB) as well as some you'd find in an independent store (like TikiDog, Primal, Earthborn, etc). so if you have one of those stores near you, I'd check it out! Your Ruby is a cutie! We'd definitely love to see more pictures of her :) |
I've tried several....Blue Buffalo, Nature's Balance, Taste of the Wild etc. I bought a bag of Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul (adult dog formula) over the weekend and he loves it. He normally just snacks throughout the day, a bite here a bite there, but not with this. He stands at his bowl until it's empty. |
ty!!! ur babies are cute too!! |
ok thx for ur reply:-) |
Ruby looks beautiful Congratulations on such a beautiful "Ruby". I feed a combination of Raw food (raw chicken or venison) and Orijen or Acana adult kibble. When I've forgotten to order the Orijen or Acana I've used Blue Buffalo as the PetSmart here sells that. Mine will eat any food... I think I'm lucky that way as they have never turned down any food and have no problems when my parents watch them and give them a different kind of food. Enjoy Ruby!! |
I feed Acana and I use Royal Canin for treats (his little interactive toys, etc). He does really well. I am considering homecooking though. |
ty!! ur baby is cute too!! thx for the info! :-) |
Royal Canin, from conception to grave.... |
We have tried......Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo grain free, Blue Buffalo limited ingredient and now Nutrisca. They have been on Nutrisca Grain/potato free for the last 5 months and are thriving! |
Mine is on Artemis and loves it! |
Orijen and Pioneer Naturals venison topped with Stella and Chewy chicken or Duck . Nobody can call HER boring! |
Orijen mixed with a Dr. Pitcairn home-cooked recipe. |
Blue Buffalo Basics, Salmon and Sweet Potato, for last few years due to allergies and thankfully all three of them love it. |

Hi and welcome to YT! Your Ruby looks soooo cute! I feed Annie Natural Balance. When we rescued her, I used the food they were feeding her. Stopped at PSP on our way home with her to get supplies, and they recommended NB small breed and she LOVED it. |
My boys eat Fromm Chicken a la veg. We have used the same food for 4.5 years. |
I tend to rotate with Fromm, Horizon (Legacy or Amicus), and Evangers grain free. They have been trying to get me to try Nature's Logic also. |
I feed a mix of prey model and preground/premix raw. I have three sources a special raw feeding place heronview raw and natural, that's a little out of my way so I load up when I visit Lori. I also shop Bold Raw premade raw which is locally sourced here in Ontario and sold at Global pets. I vary my muscle meats between, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, rabbit and duck and make sure to include organ meats and green tripe |
i've been giving my girl the bb small breed....i guess it's true wat i've heard...she is very gassy!! :-P. just fyi.....nutro is having promo for free 15lb bag of natural choice. buy it and send in rebate with proof of purchase. unfortunately there is no 15lb for toy breed line so i had to get the one up- for small breed..ruby seems to like it :-) |
My girls seem to like Cannine Caviar Open Sky. I have started feeding them the Cannine Caviar mixed with Acana fish in the morning. A snack of Honest Kitchen Pro Bloom (1 tablespoon of the mixture in the early afternoon and just started raw frozen Natures Variety Instinct venison mixed with a little Cannine Caviar kibble for dinner. So far so good and they seem to eat everything now. When they were on just the Cannine Caviar their poopies looked like rabbit poopies (hard and little balls)...now they are more like Yorkie poopies. |
Stella & Chewy's My little girl "Gracie" LOVES Stella & Chewy's dehydrated patties. I started her off with the chicken patties, moved on to lamb and duck and just introduced the surf&turf and rabbit flavors. She loves them all. |

:animal36 Thank u everyone for all ur feedback!! all ur babies are precious! |
When my pup refused to eat 'normal' dog food we went with raw feeding after much investigation. We buy Stella & Chewy's freeze dried and frozen foods and she loves them. I also prepare some homemade meals for her now and then. |
My little guy is on Blue Buffalo, he also get's their treats. His previous owner had him on Purina little bites, I weaned him off of that the first week. He does well on the Blue and loves their treats...ohhhh boy does he love them. |
I feed a pre made raw food from Darwin's and Piper has done amazing on it. She refused to eat doggy kibble and canned food. |
