Do All Yorkies Need Dentals? Daisy is 10 years old and has never had a dental cleaning. Her teeth have always been white and tarter free. The vet checks them on each yearly exam and says they look really nice. Can she be accumulating dangerous bacteria on her teeth even though they don't have any tarter or discoloration? Thanks for replies. |
It's the dogs that have gum disease or dark spots on the enamel, early caries that usually need dental cleanings. My Tibbe's teeth are white but his gums get reddened and puffy in an area or two without the cleanings he has once a year. I brush his teeth but cannot clean just under the edge of the gum as the vet can do when he's under anesthesia. I don't think all Yorkies have the tendency to retain bacteria under the edge of the gum as much as others. |
