Food options Hi, I have a 17 year old yorkie who has become very picky and I now give him anything he wants as long as he eats. These are some of the things he will now eat: milk (loves it), scrambled eggs with parmesan cheese, faux goulash made with egg noodles, ground hamburger and Campbells tomato soup, Royal Canin Gastro food (this you have to get from the vet). Because he has trouble with his teeth now, he will only occasionally eat a few pieces of kibble. When I am home I give him little bits of food during the day and he seems to do better that way. |

At my wits end I was very lucky with Rocky. He came from a pet store and has always had a cast iron stomach. He has lived longer than any of my other dogs and has always eaten all kind of things with the exception of things like onion, garlic, chocolate, etc. My poodles seem to have had more problems with their digestion than he ever has. |

The stomach itself doesn't necessarily "categorize" things according to raw or non-raw. The stomach rather decides whether the substance is a carb, a protein, a fat, a toxin, etc - and then processes that way, followed by moving into the small intestine (when they're ready). Example with us humans: we can eat sushi and cooked chicken on the same night, heck during the same "meal". With that said, it's questionable at best if dogs were "built for this diet" in the first place, as the many recent studies prove otherwise. |

Lola has been eatting well the past few days. She's getting weruva with cheese 2x a day and eating a good bit of solid gold wee bit, she's almost done with the 2 sample bags they sent me. Does anyone know of any other foods similar in texture to weruva (shredded meat)? I know fromm does. |

I love using TikiDog which is excellent, especially if you can find a good deal but kind of pricey to feed full-time. We've also fed the Fromm shredded kind that you mentioned...it's been a while since we used it but I remember that it had a lot of liquidy/thick brothy stuff in the can...really easy to mix with kibble. |

Lola's back to her games. I had to return 2 open cans of weruva because she wouldn't touch them, they were new flavors (bed and breakfast and amazon liver), so idk if it was the flavor or what. She wouldn't get within 12in of the plate, even with cheese on top of it. I offered her each one 4x. She also snubbed a can of nature's recipe beef something. She finished both sample bags of the solid gold wee bits, so I bought a bag. She won't touch it. She's currently eating health extension, the problem with that is the only stores around me that carry it won't let me return an open bag if she stops eating it. She ate some beef earthbound food tonight, but only after I heated it and added cheese. |
Ugh...me too.....eats samples buy a "small" larger bag , no eat. Watch the cheese .....fat content awareness. Over the weekend Zoey here decided to go at her pet stage chewy toy and I knawed the string off and SWALLOWED it. On my lap That! It musta been 5 inches long. When I heard a little noise from her and ii realized what she had done I freaked out . She just looked at me like Whaat Whaat?! Watching her every move and waiting for her to either poop it out or up chuck it , next day she up chucked it. But eating hasn't changed and she has been throwing up once every night since. Total 3 times. . I read if they have stomach aches or pain they won't eat, like pancreatitis. Today is Monday and I'm going to call the vet. She is very active and drinks ok though. I have her on chicken and rice anda little kibble mixed in. We will see how fast she tires of that.totally rejects the party animal now mixed in with kibble warm or cold. Ate a little pumkin after up chuck :( |

What do they chew on? We have bully's too but I'm concerned of digestive issues with them too. Mercy you woulda thought they would make the sting knots tight enough they couldn't loosen and swallow! |
Just reading through your posts. yikes that's tough. Have you tried doing a different food each day? say take three different types and give her one in the mornings and a different and night and then a different one the next day, etc etc and then rotate three of them? then you use up each bag but rotate. The other thing you mentioned, does she want your table food? You said she was looking at someones plate. I know this sounds odd but maybe she wants to eat with you, like you do. I find these dogs can be pretty quirky. Jess sure is although not about food.. I don't mean to give her the table food but maybe her food when you eat and she eats with you so she thinks she is getting the same thing. I know someone once who had a similar problem and put their pup in a highchair (don't laugh) placed the bowl on the highchair table and let the dog eat with them. Worked like a charm. I don't know, just a thought. :icon5::smile: |
