Help - Food ?? Hi Happy New Year to All- I have a 6lb. parti yorkie girl who is 2yrs. old- She is new to our family-had her about 4 months..My older yorkie has been eating Royal Canin for years and they all love it- but my new girl started scratching and started losing hair on her hind legs. Talked to my vet -decided it was probably a grain sensitive issue- I have tried her on 4 different dry foods since RC and she does not like any of them..I know RC has questionable ingred. but it does smell great to the dogs.. I have tried, nutro-taste of the wild- Has anyone had luck with Wellness Core- I'm not sure if it is the grain-free or what but she dose not seem to like any of them even when I put a little wet food on top...Anyone know of a small kibble GRAIN-FREE that smells & taste good?? The only thing I can suggest is to get samples of different foods to see if they like it. You can get them at pet food stores, or online from the companies. My dogs are not picky eaters. I feed them Horizon Legacy, Horizon Amicus, Fromm Duck and Sweet Potato (not grain free, but low grain and contains no corn, wheat, or soy), and currently feeding Evangers Chicken and Sweet Potato grain free. They like them all. Evangers also has a grain free called Meat Medley, which my dogs also have eaten and like. You might also try the Fromm grain free formulas. Another food the are trying to get me to try is Nature's Logic, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm sure others will chime in with other ideas. The best and most economical way to try foods is to get samples though. |
Mine are currently enjoying nature's logic kibble & canned. You can email them & ask for samples (of the new formula). If you want the new formula (bc there's 2 old ones floating around), SitStay.com has the newest formulas & are available in small bags. My guys also get Primal (freeze dried & frozen) for another meal & are doing excellent! |
Nature's Logic uses millet, it's not a grain but a seed, very low in the glycemic index.:thumbup: |
I adopted my Yorkie, Milo, 10 months ago; changed him from what they had him on---Natural Balance---& tried several different foods after that which he did not care for at all----mostly in the Blue Buffalo line. He is now on Blue Buffalo, Grain Free, Small Breed Red Meat formula & seems to really like it & it is rated 5 stars by dogfoodadvisor.com. Good Luck! |
We've fed the Wellness Core Ocean (the Core line is grain-free) and had excellent results with that. Fromm's grain-free kibble is pretty small and very palatable. I also recommend looking at Acana...my sister fed her senior yorkie (very finicky dog) Acana and she ate nearly 1/2 a cup (that was a good amount for her, especially not being a big eater) of that a day, just plain ol' dry! I agree with going to an independent pet store and asking for some free samples. You can also buy small sample bags of the Acana. |
I have a picky pup and he right now is eating Fromm Salmon Tunalini. It is grain free. I got free samples at my local dog food store. Good luck in your search |
