Shaky yorkie My yorkie Lincoln is very tiny (2.5lbs). Is it normal for him to shake at times? I mean really shake. He was shaking like crazy a few minutes ago, but when he laid down he finally stopped. Is it ok? He's 9 months old. |
Good morning! :) Well, when Harry was little and shaking, I would always check his gums - if they looked pale I would give him some nutrical. Harry's now a (very! :D) big boy - but he still has his shaking episodes. If he's chilly I put a sweater on him (whether he keeps it on is another matter!)....they're that much closer to the ground, and can feel any draughts that we can't. He also tends to shake through anxiety - for instance when he knows my husband is about to go to work...as long as you eliminate any 'nasty' possibilities, I think maybe it's just a 'Yorkie thing' :) Good luck, Sally + Harry x |
Our old guy shakes, sorta a head bob thing... I concur with the above comment. Seems to happen when either of us humans are preparing to leave.. more so than temperature... there is the temperature shake, when he comes in from outside but it is for a very short period of time. |
My 2yo Bailey, weighing 7/5 lbs, also shakes from time to time, which entails his whole body. I just cuddle him with a blanket and/or put him in my housecoat to warm him quicker and he returns to normal. I don't seem to find any common reasons when he does this, but have thought that since he is lower to the ground, coupled with the fact he isn't very hairy and with a straight coat, he feels the slightest draft. When I sit on the carpet with him to play, I find it chilly sometimes. Most of the times I have the heat on quite high, but do have the patio door ajar slightly. Do you have a heating blanket that you could put under another blanket (as to not burn him) to warm him and to eliminate him being chilly? Hope this helps you. Cheers! |
Thank you so much for your responses. I'm sure as tiny as he is, that cold to him is a lot more extreme than it is to someone like me. I'll just invest in some sweaters (if I can find some that fit him) and see if that helps any. |
He could be cold, he could be in pain, it really could mean anything. When is the last time he has a check up with the vet and had a full blood panel done? |
George shakes when we have to go in the car, dont know why cause he loves going places, he shakes if I get upset, he shakes if he's not well, he shakes if strangers are to close. So I have to accertain whats happening is he well or is he nervous cold or upset. Its a Yorkie thing and a cuddle or game can do wonders if its nerves. Could be low blood sugar I always have Nutrical on standby. |
