high quality allergy food? I need to find a high quality allergy food for Milo, I know if I ask my Vet they will recommend a brand I will not want to feed him. He is currently eating dry natural balance sweet potato and venison, limited ingredient while he is scratching and licking less the. His previous role ( I switched about 2 months ago). It is still an issue. Thanks for your suggestions |
Alfie has made great progress since his vet derm put him on Royal Canin Anallergenic (not hypoallergenic) this food is processed to a point that the proteins are unrecognisable. |

I suggest you give it at least another month of the food he is presently on. My vet told me it takes 3 full months for the other food to completely get out of their system and the new food to begin working. When I switched my 3 to a new food because of the itching and skin issues, it took 4 months to see complete results! They are now pretty much itch-free and only scratch occasionally, like we would if we has an itch in general. It wouldn't hurt if you gave it at least another month, especially if you are beginning to see some good improvement. |

I was feeding him natural balance LID. Turkey for years then in the spring he started to lick and scratch A LOT went to vet got meds went away then came back I switched to same brand but sweet potato and venison took him off all treats he seemed good still licking and scratching but not as much added back in dental chews and noticed he started again more so stopped those now he is just back on the food but he is still scratching and licking more than he should We have been to the vet 3 times and they mentioned trying the allergy food the problem is I am not thrilled with the choices the vet has. I am almost done with the second bag of venison and if I want to try something safely I should gradually switch now. |
Often times an allergy test is well worth it compared to wasted food and repeated vet visits etc. We are currently on nb lid duck n potato, I tea lily like Zignature which is a single protein as well but sometimes it is the weirdest stuff they are allergic to like yeasts so I would advocate for the test if you can get it done. My yorkie has really bad allergies and on top of that she's a very picky eater. We've tried different shampoos and have her on steroids. She kept getting skin infections from the scratching that we finally took her to a specialist, a vet dermatologist. My yorkie was tested for environmental and food allergies. It was determined that she was allergic to lamb and beef and certain grass and trees. She only goes outside to do her business and occasionally a walk so we decided to address the food allergies. Since I've started avoiding foods with lamb and beef, her skin condition has improved dramatically, along with daily steroids. Her allergies were so severe that her behind had thick black skin. After 4 months, some of the thick black skin is gone and her tail doesn't appear to be as swollen. We were warned that it would take a long time for it to go away completely. Her life span may be shorten due to steroids, but I rather have her feeling comfortable than itchy and irritated all the time. |
