Can puppies chew on raw bones? I've come across some posts on here about raw bones, and was wondering if it's safe for puppies? Leo is 4.5 months old, and I'm heading out later to buy some stuff and I was thinking of getting Leo and Zoey raw bones. The family owned pet shop in my town has a freezer full of raw foods, and bones. I think the bones are Beef and Lamb. Would those be okay to give Zoey and Leo, or could they break the bone and choke? |

Lamb neck bones are soft stay away from beef bones they are too hard and try pork bones. A nice wee soft rib bone is nice but don't let them eat too much just a little at a time as their diet should only consist of 10% bone and stay away from marrow. Too fatty. |
I wouldn't give my pups any bones. There is just too great of a risk that a piece could break off and they could choke on it. |

small raw chicken necks are relatively safe as the bones are quite soft. I would introduce raw very slowly and not in conjunction with kibble or any grains as they do not digest at the same rate. My dogs are older 19 months and 3 years, but they absolutely go nuts for raw chicken necks. Because, I'm bit of an overprotective freak I always hold the bones for them to ensure they are not just gulping them down. I try to give them a chicken neck once a week. |

I feel exactly the way you do. I have tried freeze dried raw and they weren't really interested , not even my little glutton Diesel lol. However, raw bones are raw and should not be feed with even a premium kibble (I feed mine Orijen with cooked human grade organic meat or chicken and the occasional organic veg or fruit). I talked to my trainer and he said he is finding many dogs are now allergic to chicken. It made me wonder if it is because of all of the hormones and antibiotics they pump into chicken these days. I am very fortunate where we live as we are close to an organic chicken farmer and our local natural store sometimes sells organic chicken necks and backs for soup stock. |

I don't give mine chicken necks because I'd have to sit and hold them. there is also too much bone in a chicken neck so I'd recommend something with more meat. I have a gobbler and he did choke on chicken neck, turkey necks are a lot bigger |

For a balanced diet I recommend you introduce a few more proteins into their diet, natures variety carry several formulations, may I suggest lamb rabbit and duck |

I feed my Gizmo Acana. Sometimes I'll give him some boiled skinless, boneless chicken breast. As treats I give hike some fruits and veggies. His favourites are green peppers, green beans, watermelon, blueberries and raspberries. I try not to give him those store bought treats. |
