Rosie's dental Rosie will be 1 next month. She did not have her puppy teeth pulled during her spay back in August bc the vet said her teeth weren't ready yet. I was upset because she would have to go under anesthesia again but they insisted we wait. She still has many, many of her puppy teeth retained and I was atrying to wait until she hit 3 pounds or if they came out on their own like Luma's did...but neither of those has happened yet (she's 2 lbs. 5 oz). I started noticing she became reluctant to eat and had to soften her food, and she won't take any treats, so I know her teeth must be really hurting her...I feel so guilty about that. I shouldn't have waited this long. So, I called her regular vet and we came in to have a consultation with the Dr. about doing the surgery. She ended up referring us to a specialist because of Rosie's size. So now we are all booked for December 21 at A&M Small Animal Hospital. We have another consultation on Friday with them bc I wanted to talk with them and have bloodwork done now and again on the morning of her dental. I know they are very good, board certified, so I am confident, but I feel just as nervous as I did with her spay. I've also never experienced a dental before...Luma hasn't needed one but Rosie's teeth are terrible! I feel so.bad that my littlest baby is in pain and not wanting to eat, but it will be all better soon. So, anyone experience a dental with a tinier yorkie? How'd they do with the anesthesia? |
Poor Rosie. The smaller pups seem to be more prone to retaining teeth. My neighbor has a very small girl and she had to have almost all of her baby teeth pulled at 1 year of age. She did fine with anesthesia and with the teeth being pulled. I understand your concerns because it is my least favorite thing to deal with, and my boys are big. :) Have the bloodwork done, and be confident since you are working with a specialist. Rosie will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
Maybe reading this will help a little http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...nesthesia.html. I sure she will do great but I will keep her and you in my prayers. |
I'll be thinking about you and Rosie and sending positive thoughts your way. |
