Are all jerkies bad? Charlie picked out a dry duck jerky today, then I get home and see all these jerky alerts on here. Are they all something to stay away from?? |
It was mostly just the ones made in China that where killing and making dogs very sick but then there started to be a few made in the USA so I personally don't buy any. My mom dehydrates her own chicken in a dehydrator for her dogs and will give me some for Callie. |
The back of the package says... "made with great care in China. Tested for quality in the U.s." The brand is Welcome Home. Anyone heard of them? |
I'm thinking I don't want to risk it. A waste of $15 though. I wonder if I can return them. Probably not. |
dog My dogs do not get jerky of any kind. Especially if it is made in China. Choking may occur with these things. Be careful. |
Hmmm anything consumable that's Made in China, I would skip. Have you looked into Beams from the honest kitchen? They're dehydrated catfish skins, my guys LOVE them! Since it's kinda fishy (not that bad tho, compared to another fish treat called Wishes), I only give it to them once a week b4 bath time. Surprisingly, it doesn't give them fishy breath. It's a great source of omega 3's, their hair is so shiny. Beams - Natural Dehydrated Fish Dog Treats | The Honest Kitchen |
I don't give anything made anywhere but USA or Canada. Blue Buffalo makes some jerky treats (made in USA) but honestly, I like the idea of making your own. There was a company less than 80 miles from my house that had a recall on treats due to Salmonella, so you just can't be sure unless you make them yourself. (Which I don't, but if I had a dehydrator, I would) |
Yeah I decided I wouldn't give him anymore. Kind of freaked me out a little when I read all the bad stuff about them. Especially when I read made in China. |
I wouldn't trust any type of food from China! You can make your own at home...Perdue chicken breast, very thinly sliced, baked until done (dried) about 4 hours at 300 degrees in your oven. Do not use any seasoning. Let cool on a cooling rack, then place in fridge or freezer. |
