Merricks Has anyone used this food? It has great reviews. thinking about going to it. |
I personally do not trust the company they have had a lot of recalls. |
my older Papillion has been on merrick for the last 9 years and Morgan has been on it for the last 2 years// merrick got their bully stick recalled not their food |

dog After a lot of research and a call to my former poodle breeder who's husband is a vet, I chose wellness. She feeds it to her show poodles and I find it to be a good quality food. My Yorkies like it. I feed the Wellness Super5 mix Complete Health to both of my dogs, Spud is 9 and JoJo is 2. They like it with a little wet Wellness chicken mixed in it. This is the food I would recommend. |
Ive had no problems with Wellness canned, but my Prissy wont eat their kibble. Would it be ok to feed Wellness canned and Merricks kibble. Or should I try to stay with one brand. |
I mix different brands of kibbles and canned foods all the time and have had no problems with it....it's perfectly fine if your pup tolerates it and does well. I would just recommend that you not add a bunch of new things at once...some dogs require a gradual transition and you also want to be able to pinpoint the culprit if a certain ingredient or whatever doesn't agree with your pup. |

Q & A w/Merrick Merrick Introduction What is the sprayed on gravy made of? Our homestyle gravy is made with a combination of all natural ingredients - did we mention they are a family secret? I want to know what the 'family secret' is...don't you? I want to know what I'm giving my dogs. For them to answer this way, is very misleading & holding back ingredient info.:thumbdown:rolleyes::thumbdown CANNED FOODS Are there really supposed to be chicken bones in the Wingaling? Yes, our whole chicken wings offer tender chicken cooked on the bones and as a result of the cooking process, the bones become soft as well. Feel free to serve whole or break apart the wings and serve as a complete meal. I thought cooked bones splinter & should NEVER be given to dogs, esp cooked chicken bones? :confused::eek::confused: The only positive thing I found about Merrick was that they claim to use all USA ingredients, including their vitamin premix. I have been hearing about Merrick for a couple of months now and thought about trying it on my large breed dogs. Will keep checking this thread to see what the Pros have to say about it before I make a decision. |

My experience Hello, I've been finding my two dogs (1 yorkie + 1 shih tzu) with Merrick's for over a year. Some background: My yorkie has always been a picky eater and suffers from skin allergies, so I had been n the search for the perfect food for 3 years before I found this food. My shih tzu was a human-food eater before I adopted her, and therefore rejected the dry food when I introduced it. I'm satisfied with Merrick's. The food is of satisfactory quality with high contents of meat, you've the choice of grain-free, and it comes in various flavors, which is hard to find in other brands & that variety is great for picky eaters. I rotate flavors to just give them some variety. The kibble size is not to big and kind of flat, so it's ok for their small jaws. Another plus for me is that my local Petco puts that food in sale & sends coupons often. My picky yorkie eats his meals happy, and the shih tzu is accepting her food nicely. Hope my mini review helps a little. For me Merrick's is a good quality food with some great advantages for my dog's needs. |
Since starting this thread I started feeding Prissy the Merricks and she is doing great on it. I will keep her on it til a year old then go to grain free Merricks. They only have one puppy kibble and one puppy canned. I can't wait til shes a year old and can take advantage of all the flavors. All dogs are different but Prissy does well on this. |
I used to be very leary of Merrick. I guess I still somewhat am, but they DO seem to have improved with these new formulas and such. They did have quite a few recalls for salmonella for treats though. I guess I would just proceed with caution. |
