Low fat treats Anyone have any yummy low fat treats for babies with pancreatitis history? |
Low fat treats There is a soft treat called Blue Buffalo Bites, I think!, it is only 4% fat. Also I use Pure Bites dehydrated chicken breast pieces that can be broken up for small treats. It is made in USA and chicken is the sole ingredient. I am sorry your baby has to be on the special food for good now, but even though the ingredients are not what we would like, it does keep the pancreas prone pet well! |
Thanks for the info. I'll check into the blue buffalo and chicken treats. |
Because both fat and protein can trigger pancreatitis, it can be difficult to find safe treats. For the first few months I'd probably go with just the rx food and no treats. Maybe something like Fruitables would work later on. I'd even avoid things like sweet potato and banana now..and maybe for life. Cheerios and green beans come to mind... |
I would be very careful with treats. I did not feed anything but a home cooked pancreatitis diet for 3 months after my dog had it the second time. He was able to eat green beans (canned) after that as treats. |
The vet said no to sweet potato. Green beans and missed veggies are ok. I think I will pass on treats for awhile. Thanks for all the input. I don't want her to suffer with this problem again. Thank goodness she is a good eater and not picky. |
I was told no fruit, no sweet potatoes, nothing with too much sugar or fiber fat or protein. Skipping snacks is a good move. Best wishes. |
cooked chicken or dehydrated anchovies |

Yes same discussion with my vet, nothing with vegetable fibre. harder for the body to break down and puts too much strain on the pancreas, no plants or grains |
