Did he choke? Can a yorkie choke? Chip was eating a kibble and thought he seen someone at the door and started barking like crazy then was gasping for air for a second or two, now he is just lying down like he is scared. Just wanted to ask the experts.:) |
Yes they can choke. Have you checked to see if there is anything logged in your dogs throat? Are they breathing okay now? Here is a link to other different breathing issues Yorkies might have. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...d-trachea.html |
Thanks, yes he is breathing fine now I will check out the link you posted, |
Absolutely they can choke. It's also possible for them to aspirate a small piece of food and have it develop in to a pneumonia. If you are at all concerned about his breathing, a trip to the ER vet should be considered. |
His breathing seems to be fine, he barked at the door again , an asked for a treat, I think I will call the vet in the morning to be on the safe side. |
I am glad his breathing in fine. Buster has chocked before when he was eating and then got excited/barked. I hope that is all that is going on with your baby. Best wishes. |
Thanks buster brown, I looked at the link you posted, it looked like the reverse sneezing more than anything. But you never can tell, I think I would feel better if I called vet. I'm a worry wart. Lol |

Carried Chip to vets today, she did a X-ray everything looked good, had some stuff in his tummy, but she said he would pass that, got to keep a eye on them all the time. I think he may have a tummy ache, but felt fine till I carried him to vet. So sorry about your little one yorkiemom1. |
I know how scary choking is. Jada has choked a couple of times simply because she won't chew her food and inhales it. I had been able to dislodge the kibble on past episodes but the last time she was gasping. Thank god my vet is literally 2 minutes away and I called on my way and drove like a maniac. My vet was waiting outside the office to grab her out of my arms. The food had dislodged by the time we got there but she was put on antibiotics as a precaution just in case she aspirated into her lungs. |
My Yorker was choking on a treat. Last week my yorkie was around the table where they always are at dinner time. My yorkie Molly started acting funny almost like having a seizure but gasping for air. She was down on the floor making awful noises. Without even thinking a jumped to where she was and stuck my finger down her throat to see if I could help. Never done that before!! But I guess it worked because she coughed a few times and took in air. After about 5 or 10 minutes she was fine. Scared me to death. I don't know dog CPR but I'm trying to find out how to do it so next time if there is one ill hopefully know what I'm doing |
