Bil-jac dog food has anyone else tried it My Prissy LOVES it. Im trying her now on canned wellness for puppies and Bil-Jac puppy for her kibble she will not touch the super5mix by wellness. She is 5 months. When she turns 1 year Id like to try the Bil Jac tubs of the wet food. They have a good variety. Wondering if anyone is feeding that and how many tubs a day are they need. I will continue to feed the kibble too. She is such a picky eater. Any one else using this food let me know how your dog is doing with it and how much you are feeding. |
dog Mine like the super 5 mix complete health dry food. I put a few little pieces of the chicken from the wellness wet chicken can and they love that. I hope your dog likes her food. I don't know if Bil-Jac is a good quality dog food like wellness. I would research that first. |
i use it...it's the only food mine will eat on a regular everyday basis. we do a 1/4 split daily with another food..veggies/wellness canned to mix it up for them. |
It has bha in it BHA... a Time Bomb in Dog Food? |
I feed Wellness. I have tried the bil-jac training treats. I figured they are little and soft so the boys might like them...but they weren't too fond of them. I worked for a Breeder who used to feed bil-jac...she may still!?! I am not sure the type but it came in soft pellets and I used to pull it out of the fridge/freezer. I used to make meatballs out of them and stuff their various pills and vitamins in them. All of the dogs loved them. Of course...this was quite a few years ago when the selection of dog food was MUCH smaller than it is now. |

Bil-Jac uses BHA as a preservative...known as a carcinogen in the state of CA & causes cancer in lab rats. This would be a synthetic preservative I would avoid in human & pet food. Bil-Jac Small Breed Puppy INGREDIENTS: Chicken, Chicken By-Products (organs only, source of arginine), Corn Meal, Chicken By-Product Meal, Oatmeal, Dried Beet Pulp, Whole Yams, Brewers Dried Yeast, Flaxseed, DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Dried Blueberry, Dried Cranberry, Dried Apple, Dried Broccoli, Sodium Propionate and Mixed Tocopherols (preservatives), Salt, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Niacin, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Folic Acid, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Manganous Oxide, Inositol, BHA (a preservative), Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Cobalt Carbonate, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Selenite, Rosemary Extract. |
Great I did not catch that.......thank you for letting me know. It seems no matter what food there is a recall or something bad in it. ugh......ugh. |
Safe pet food for dogs and cats and pet food without BHA BHT or Ethoxyquin It says it is also in a lot of the foods we eat.. There were only 5 non BHA foods listed on this one...and mine don't like any of them...I guess I am seriously going to have to consider home cooking and vitamins. thanks again my husband doenst even want to feed them dinner. |
This list has all the dog foods that contains BHA: Search Results BHA Do you have a feed store, specialty or boutique near you that carries premium brand pet food (from the US & Canada)? They don't have anything that contains BHA. You can order online too, many places offer free shipping if you order $49-50. Foods that do not use BHA as a preservative will have something like: preserved w/natural tocopherols. Artificial Dog Food Preservatives Could Be Toxic to Your Pet Other brands you can try if you can only go to Petsmart or Petco: Wellness, Simply Nourish, Royal Canin, Nature's Variety, Halo, Canidae...there's many more. |
Based on what the last poster said I will probably try the simply nourish or the Royal canine. Ive heard that picky dogs will eat Royal Canine. I am satisfied with Wellness canned puppy food, she will eat that. I just need a kibble she will eat for lunch and snacks. Will it be ok to give her RC kibble and Wellness canned. Our Petsmart only has the dry RC. (that may be all they make). Any suggestions on brands? She will not eat Blue Buffalo kibble or wellness kibble. Of course she loves purina puppy chow but I dont want her eating that anymore. And she loves Bil jac. She loves food thats bad for her she must get that from me lol just kidding. |
Scooter and his sis have been eating BilJac for years. It's not their main food as it's out all the time and they nibble on it when the mood strikes them. Their main diet is Fresh Pet which has received very good reviews. Along with the Fresh Pet they received shredded boiled chicken breasts which they love. I'm well aware that BilJac contains BHA but neither dog will even touch another kibble although I've tried numerous brands with them. |

Mine don't like it |
Scooter and sis eat the rolls not the tubs. For some reason they don't like the tubs. I cut up the rolls into bite size pieces and heat it in the microwave and they love it. I did see that the rolls (Select) were rated 5 star. |
