Alfie update Thought I would give you all an Alfie/Apoquel update. So far he is doing quite well. We still don't trust him enough to let him run bare naked when we work but he is not scratching or biting a lot at all. When we are home and he is allowed Jammie free time he will still sometimes be found on the stairs enjoying his guilty pleasure of nibbling his sides like a corn cob, but the scratching seems under control, apart from his muzzle, sometimes, but is think that his thick whiskers bother him there? Overall he is doing as well as he was when he was on prednisone, but even that didn't take his scratchy bitey urges away completely, so I would say it has been quite successfully. I don't think I am still holding out for a miracle cure, Apoquel is good, it is not a steroid and although Alfie is not completely itch free I think it is definitely keeping him comfortable, without the worrisome long term effects. |
Coco has been on Apoquel for I think a couple of months now and it seems to be working great for her. She was on Allercept Therapy Drops. They worked really really well. I just wasn't too crazy about the pump. You have to put the dispensing arm of the pump on the lower teeth, near the front or side of the mouth. She wasn't wild about this but didn't fight me. The only reason she is not on this now is due to the cost. The Apoquel is cheaper and supposed to be really good and not a harmful drug. I know sometimes when things are going good you shouldn't rock the boat but since my vet recommended this to me we thought we would give it a try and so far so good. So for those that maybe Apoquel might not work you could try this because it does work well. Coco was scratching like crazy shortly after we adopted her and the Allercept stopped the itching. |

Latte update Latte went back to the animal hospital to see her Doctor for a recheck on May 20. up to this point she has been doing great. not perfect , but a huge improvement over how she was. she still scratches herself some and still licks herself some but nowhere near like she was doing before. I do still keep clothes on her but not as much as before. sometimes , just a little thermal shirt... sometimes alittle more than that ... an all in one. the Doctor has cut her dose in half to 1/4 of an apoquel pill a day. he said from what he has read about this ( she , along with a few other dogs, is his first dog he's prescribed to be on Apoquel ), the dog will get itchy in the transition to half the dose, but then , they should get used to it. so far so good. its been 4 days at the half dose and she's still doing great. ( some itching , some licking... still wears clothes all the time... but HUGE improvement ). this is like a dream come true for me !!! my little girl is doing so great on this new Med, its just amazing :D |
Apoquel That's fantastic! Still no Apoquel up here but Tyrone's Atopica has been upped to a higher dose...even more expensive, but he is doing better. My vet is trying to get Apoquel from England, where supplies seem to be no problem. Now I have a new rescue yorkie, pad trained, but no luck with the poo packages yet lol😊! It's always something....just like kids! |

Apoquel I can only thank evryone on the site for talking about Apoquel. My Yorkie was scratching all the time and damaging his skin. He is 14 1/2 and has had this itch on and off for 4 years. We tried all tablets, steriods, shampoos. I even bought sprays and shampoo from the US. 2 days after he took Apoquel he was great, it took him a while to break the habit of having a srcatch from the sofa cushion. He is like a much younger dog and the groomer even said how his hair has improved. Ben is on 3.6 but now it is getting hard to get Apoquel and i don't want him to go back to having have steriods. Anyone else in the UK finding stocks are getting low |
Well, we are now out of Apoquel.:sad: Went to the vet to get her another months supply and they had NONE !!!!:eek: I was all but in panic mode. I wasn't expecting to hear that. I had been told that once they were in the system that they would be able to get it for them. It was the new customers that were going to be having difficulty getting it. So, you can imagine my surprise. They didn't know when they would get more. Told me to give her Benadryl. So, we are now back on the really expensive allergy medicine that she was on originally. It's $165 for two-15ml bottles:eek: Needless to say, we will not be going back on Apoquel. Just don't want to take the chance of them not having it. It worked well but....her Allercept Therapy drops have actually worked the best. Sooo, I think we will stick to the drops despite the $$$ Just thought I would give an update on Apoquel. |
Update on Tyrone Haven't been on here in awhile, but wanted to update on Tyrone's response to Apoquel, which he has been on for about 7 months. It has really been great for him, though not perfect. Within an hour of taking the first 1/2 pill, his itching was gone. Stayed that way for awhile. He is still better than when he was on Atopica. However he does have an occasional flare up, and I have to up his dosage to twice a day again until it subsides. Really no side effects or other problems at all at this point. I pay 85.00 for 100 pills, about a half year supply...huge savings over 60.00 a month for Atopica. So generally I am happy with this drug. His quality of life is definitely improved. Hope all those other allergic fur babies out there are doing great! Happy New Year!:) |
