My Yorkie's food Hi out there!! My Sammy is almost 2 years old. We have been feeding him with Blue Wilderness canned dog food, which he seems to love. He has been steadily gaining a bit of weight... we have gone from 5.5 pounds to now he is 7.2 pounds. He's a little build and we think he is is gaining too much weight. I hesitate to put him on dry food or change foods at all. We measure out and give him 2 ounces twice daily. Vet said he had a couple of 'rolls' on him and to cut back on it some so we went from 2.5 a day to 2 ounces. That's been several months now and he is still gaining ounces slowly. We are looking at highly rated foods we can give him that may not be so high and rich in calories???? Please do not solicit something you are selling; I just want a good recommendation. Thanks. What about trying the canned BB Freedom? Same company, still grain-free but lower in fat and a significantly fewer amount of calories for the same amount of food. I'd also recommend Weruva (from the Human Style line) and Tiki Dog. Both are really high quality foods that are low in calories for a larger volume. Wellness Core Reduced fat cans are a good option too as well as the Natural Balance Stews. We rotate between all of these with Toki depending what I find a deal on...she eats primarily wet food and I've found that it's easier to maintain her weight on it than kibble because she gets a larger volume of food (depending on the type I pick, obviosuly). If switching foods doesn't help trim your pup down, you can also replace a small portion of his food with frozen green beans. Increasing exercise can also go a long way...We did several short walks daily along with feeding Wellness Core RF to trim Toki down and it worked like a charm :) Good luck! |
We use grainfree Fromm. It is a very good food. It not only helps with the weight issues, it also is good for Yorkies that may have allergies (which sometimes will affect their coats & skin). |
chester eats the weruva canned food with his dry food |
My boys have blue buffalo freedom dry. Less protein than wild, add a little wet in morning and night |
dog My boys really like the Wellness Super 5 mix complete health. I give it to them with a little wet canned Wellness chicken. This is a really good food with good ingredients. I hope this helps. I do not liker Blue Buffalo. Took my Yorkies off of it. Loose stools and they did not like the bits in it. |
