Adding wet food to diet question I have a question and apologize if this has already been asked but Search isn't working for me. I am thinking of adding a wet food to the kibble I already feed. 1. Do I need to stay with the same brand name or can I use another brand of wet food and mix with kibble? For example I feed Cannine Caviar now - can I buy wet Fromm and feed with the Cannine Caviar? 2. Do I need to feed the same protein in wet as I do kibble or is it OK to feed a different protein? I know I have read this information on here before. |
I mix up kibble and different canned foods all the time...different brands/proteins and we don't have any issues. Toki eats primarily wet/canned foods supplemented with whatever kibble Teddy is eating. When I buy her wet food, I get enough of one type for 1 to 2 weeks and generally feed her a different type afterwards (I have a certain group of brands I prefer to buy and I get whatever I can find a deal on from that group). It should not be an issue using and mixing various types of proteins unless your pup cannot tolerate it. Some dogs cannot handle certain animal proteins or a certain protein/fat amount or whatever so that's going to be individual to your pup. So I would not mix 2 new things together just in case something doesn't agree with your pup...it'll be harder to pinpoint which one caused the issue. But to answer your question, it's fine to mix wet and dry food and foods from different brands so long as your pup tolerates it. |
Thanks...I know this has been asked before but couldn't find the thread. |
I use different brands and proteins for wet and dry and my boys do great with it :) |
I wanted to give my babies some wet mixed with their dry each morning. I got some wet food and it gave them severe diarrhea, especially Lola! I don't know what the problem was, but she was miserable for several days because her tummy was so upset! I guess I won't be giving them anything different from now on and I'll just stick to kibble! |
chester is on acana dry kibble and eats weruva wet food, one of the one with no bpa in there cans, protein source is different off and on |
