Feeding help. I intended to transition Gunner to raw. All intentions are always good. I'm lucky if he eats anything most days. He eats the RC baby kibble when he wants, he will eat a chicken neck if he wants, he likes hearts and tripe. He has good poo's and he is keeping up with a normal weight growth. My worries are he is not eating enough. Should I keep up the routine I have him on now (raw in the morning and evening with kibble at all times), or try something different? This is frustrating. My poodle couldn't wait to eat, you could set a clock by her feeding schedule. I would think a puppy would be starving all the time! One of my friends has her dog on Natures Variety refrigerated and he tasted that and loved it, but I'm not sure it is good? I buy grind from G&C raw, he hates all of them. I've tried chicken, lamb, etc. They have everything they need, but he won't eat any of it. What a waste, good thing I have friends that feed raw and will use it. Any advice? Nothing about having a puppy is easy, is it? |
I am by no means an expert, just a yorkie owner. And she's also a bit finicky. Never had one that just is so fickle about her food. I started on Natures Variety. I think it is a good food. But then Miss Fussy Butt got bored with it. I probably tried 20 different kibble and she stuck her nose up at it. Right now I am using Earthborn. I mix canned weruva in with it. Right now that seems to be working for her. I also use Real Meat Pet Food. It is like a softer kibble. She really likes that. I leave it down for her all the time just in case she's in the mood. Most days she's ok. Some days she drives me nuts. Good luck! |
I was feeding my Illy a raw diet and I felt the same way... like she was Always Starving. When I started giving her a little more because I felt bad, she started putting some lbs. on. I switched to Orijen which they say is about the closest thign you can get to RAW but in Kibble form. She is doing Awesome and is really really Happy which makes Me Happy!! :) |
You can try premade raw ( primal, natures variety) or freeze dried raw (stella and chewys)... My baby was also a finicky eater....I have finally found a combination that he likes. Orijen and stella and chewys freeze dry raw. |

I have been doing the premade raw one meal and kibble the other but have been thinking about mixing the freeze dried with the kibble....?? |
I feed Primal frozen raw, but have tried the Nature's Variety Instinct Bites. They have inexpensive trial bags so you can try the small bag to see if Gunner will like it. Both NV and Primal are highly rated on dogfoodadvisor.com. |
