dog food Hi All.... I am having a problem with what to feed GiGi. She will be 11yrs old in January. This summer she took a turn with her eating. She got diarrhea 3 times(once a month) this summer but it cleared up in one day and she was back to normal eating then the 4th time she was not able to go back to her normal eating with her old dog food. She has been on boiled chicken and a small amount of dog food for about 2 months straight now. Just last week I switched her dog food to senior. She is doing better on that (she is now pooping daily...she had been pooping once every 2 to 3 days about and getting a little bit of the runs slightly on occasion). The runs has cleared up but she is still not totally on dog food. I am still trying to slowly make the transition with her. This is not like her at all...she is the type to be able to eat anything as she has tried in the past but always remained fine. She has been to the Vet and he said to go slow with her going back to dog food and that the chicken and rice were fine till she is back to eating dog food. I was wondering if any of you have experienced this with your dog and if anyone can suggest a mild dog food for senior dogs. I am now giving her Blue Buffalo senior.... this dog food has turkey and potato and I am not sure I like that for my dogs...they always loved the chicken and rice . I don't think I like potato for dogs. Any suggestions or info...thanks Tina |
Dog Hi Tina, I just took my boys off Blue Buffalo. Soft poop and I just did not like all the complaints about this food. I cannot trust that company I called my poodle breeder from long ago and she feeds wellness to her show dogs. They get the Super 5 mix. It says weight control on the bag. My boys eat it with a little canned wellness chicken mixed in. My senior boy, Spud is 9. He gets it and JoJo is 2 eats the same. Now the senior dog gets 1/2 tab of Dasuquin I get from the vet for his joints. The glucosamine and chondroitin. I hope you find something for your Yorkie. My Yorkies poop is not squishy and I do trust this company. |
Poor Gigi- I prefer no potatoes as well. Peanut my 6 year old can’t handle it. Peanut is super sensitive as well. He has seasonal allergies as well as food allergies. I started him on Canine Caviar 9 months ago and he has been doing wonderful. Even in the worst allergy months, he has been great. It is a complete turnaround. Canine Caviar has a wonderful “special needs” product. It doesn't contain potatoes, and is made for sensitive babies as well as seniors. It is a limited ingredient product. Being a CC family I would most definitely recommend CC to your baby Gigi. Whatever you choose I hope you are able to find something that Gigi can tolerate… http://www.caninecaviar.com/product/special-needs/ Let me know if you have any questions. |
Potato free dog food is so hard to find. I also feed Canine Caviar, my guys do BEST on this food...whenever I switch, it all goes down hill. They get CC for 1 meal & premade raw for another sometimes. But recently, Mimi decided that canned food is better. loll |
