What do you use to brush your pups teeth? I bought a nylabone puppy dental kit at petco, it has toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a finger toothbrush. I tried the finger toothbrush, it's too big for her mouth and my finger. So I tried the regular toothbrush and it worked better, but it was hard and a bit unruly. I ended up just using my finger. Lola did really well for her first time, she didn't object too much and now she keeps sniffing around and pawing at the bag I put her stuff in. She was highly interested in the toothbrush so I let her chew on the bristles a bit while I kinda rubbed it against her teeth. I think I saw on here someone uses those travel crest whisp things without the toothpaste bead they come with. I might try that next. |
1 Attachment(s) Lola sounds like she might brush her own teeth like Huey does. I used C.E.T. chicken flavor enzymatic toothpaste and have also used arm & hammer beefy mint enzymatic dog paste (but it smells terrible! Imagine beefy mint...yukky). Huey loves both of them and does the yorkie twirls while I put a little on his toothbrush several times a week. I rub it down into the bristles so he will work on it for a while to get all the flavor out. He also chews on his brush daily with no toothpaste. He has several toothbrushes stashed in strategic locations throughout the house. (I hate to find the one he keeps buried in the sofa cushion...yow!!) :D |
:D Oh Marilyn....that picture.....:D Such a clever, hygienic, helpful little boy.....:D Love it! Sally x |
I use CET toothpaste and a child's toothbrush from the Dollar Tree. We tried the wisp things and the bristles were too stiff. At first I used a piece of gauze with a little toothpaste on it to get them used to the taste and feel of something in their mouth. Gradually I graduated to a small toothbrush and now they both sit still and let me brush their teeth. |
Great. How often would be adequate.? I planned on during bath days. Which would be once a week. Is That enough.? |
Thanks everyone. I really hope she'll be like Huey, he's the only dog I've heard of that brushes their own teeth. I think I'll try the gauze next and continue to let her chew on the brush. I was going to get the CET toothpaste, but I found the nylabone kit for $1.30 so I'm trying it first. She seems fine with the taste. She's already pretty used to me sticking my fingers in her mouth because she frequently gets ahold of bad things and I have to sweep her mouth and cheeks to find it. |

If I don't brush their teeth once a day I can really see the plaque build up fast with my two. |
I use the small end of a dual sided doggy toothbrush for their molars/ back teeth & the small (I think it's a cat) toothbrush from CET for their front teeth. I also use the CET toothpaste. My 4 have their own toothbrushes (8 in total loll!) & I brush their teeth every night b4 bedtime.:D Afterwards, they get bunches of kisses! |
I got this little finger brush made by Nylabone recently that I love. I use CET toothpaste. He likes beef the 'best' even though he hates getting teeth brushed. I got vanilla mint last time though and prefer it, I think it makes his breath smell better! |
Where do you buy the cet toothpaste. |

I use CET too, and the oral rinse can be very helpful!!! Oh and since your dog might brush his own teeth you might want to look into one like this ![]() or ![]() They are double headed so they get the back and the front are made small |
