Dental Work Hi All ! I am new to this site, and would love some advice from all of you :) I have a 4 pound 8 year old Yorkie male who needs some dental work. He has some loose teeth and needs a cleaning. The last time he was put under anesthesia to do this same procedure he was much younger and it was horrible. He was traumatized & it took weeks for him to go back to his playful self. I am terrified of having to put him thru this again now that he is older. Have any of you had to go thru this numerous times with your yorkies? How did it go? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank You so very much! |
It wikl be ok. Yes, my Yorkie had oral surgery. She has gone under after for cleanings. She has never needed a second dental surgery. Regular dentals as needed may prevent this. What anesthesia did the vet use? Bloodwork done? |
Hi There :) Yes he had a blood work/senior profile done last week and everything came back great. I am not sure of the anesthesia used the 1st time, however the breeder I purchased him from mentioned Isoflorentine gas is best. |
Hi There :) Thank You. Yes he had a senior profile/blood work done last week and everything came back fine. I am not sure what anesthesia was used the last time, however the breeder I purchased him from mentioned iso is best. I want to make sure my vet takes every precaution necessary to ensure his safety. I just love my little guy! |
It will be fine. :) Jax has been under 3x now - once for neuter, once for dental surgery and cleaning, and then once just for cleaning. He really hated me after the last dental cleaning. He was so out of it for 24 hrs, did not want me near him, wouldn't come near me. He got over it within 48 hrs though and was back to himself. :) And it's really worth it... staying on top of dental care is so important. And if I were you, I'd rather do it now at 8 while he's still relatively young and then keep up with them with brushing every night and hopefully not have to deal with many more dental cleanings in the future. |
Thank you Britster! Your completely right, dental care is so important. It's so horrible the stories you hear about dogs not waking up once being put under. It's so scary! My little pup means the world to me and I can't help but worry. Thank you so much for sharing your story :) you made me feel so much better. |
