Good Tasting Food vs. Healthy Food? I have been feeding Brandy Royal Canin for Yorkies, but it gives her terrible breath and she doesn't like it. She will only eat it at night, when she knows she is not getting anything else. I just bought Science Diet for small dogs and she loves it, and her breath doesn't stink. I did a search and Science Diet has a 2.5 out of 5. What should I do? Giver her what she loves and I can stand her kisses, but it isn't the best for her, or give her something better for her that she doesn't like, and I have to tell her "no kisses?" |
Well you should give her what she loves, and what does best for her. You can always brush her teeth, that will help!! |
I really doubt the Royal Canin is much better than Science Diet. I definitely would not feed my dogs a food they didn't like. Finding the right food, one that they like and is good for them, can be a challenge. Best of luck to you and Brandy! |
I really don't trust those rating sites, the writers never have a degree in nutrition and nutrition is really complicated and more akin to chemistry. It's what all the ingredients do together, but the rating sites measure them individually. If a food gives bad breath, that might mean your dog is having trouble digesting it and brushing it's teeth wouldn't solve the problem because the smell is coming from the stomach, not the mouth. My dogs do very well on RC, but if your dog does better on Science diet, I would definitely feed him that. The food you are feeding claims it's easy to digest and it sounds like that was part of your dogs problems. I happen to believe that Science Diet makes some excellent foods. Also, just because a dog loves a food, it doesn't mean it's a junk food, they should love what they are eating. |
Try the new science diet ideal balance I think it is an amazing food and it is good for them and from a trust worthy company! My Yorkie is terribly picky and the only food she will eat makes her breath sometimes a bit funky but I bush her teeth and its gone. |
The dog food rating sites judges a dog food by how much actual meat protein is in the food...the higher the meat protein content, the higher the rating. I don't go by the rating, I go by the ingredients & how the company sources those ingredients. You need to pick a food w/the ingredients that is appropriate for your dog, bc every dog is different. |
My boys eat RC Yorkie and love it. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork No more wasted food. No bad breath. |
