eye gunk & food So I recently purchased a bag of taste of the wild-bison and venison puppy formula to try for my King. Since I've started the transition process I've noticed gunk form in his eyes. His eyes drained a lot before I even introduced TOTW, but I never saw gunk. I am now wondering if there could be a correlation between the food and the gunk? Also Since I started him on this food I've noticed his poops are BIG and they smell BAD. before starting him on this food his poops were Normal and didnt smell. Anyone ever experience something like this? What could it be? |
dog I have read some posts on line that link food to eye gunk. I would definitely check this out. So many dog foods out now have things that dogs react to. I hope you can get to the bottom of this problem. |
Yes definitely a food can cause drainage and gunk! Joey eyes were fine until I switch to Blue Wilderness and brown gunk formed on his eyes, I didn't even totally switch him, but by the third day, I realized it must be the food and I stopped it, and the eyes improved dramatically within 24 hours. It took another 2 weeks to completely clear up. So after about a month I tried it again, his eyes were fine and within one day copious brown thick liquids were coming from his eyes, almost like gravy, but gunk describes it well. I stopped the food immediately and again it took several weeks to completely dry out. It was so bad, that it had stained his beard. My groomer wondered what in the heck happened to him and I vowed never to play around with his food again. |
Thank you all for clearing up my thoughts! Knew I wasn't crazy for thinking this! Well I just have some horrible luck then because he was actually doing well with it! Well there goes another bag that ill never use again Could this be like an allergic reaction? |
My dog Teddy recently had mucousy eye discharge. I assumed it was allergies. Then he developed an early stye and I took him to an opthalmologist vet and learned that the discharge and thick eye gunk was a case of a special type of dry eye for which Teddy requires daily drops. I would make sure there is no infection or problem before assuming that the food is the culprit. |
Wondering in response to the eye funky food correlation what kind of food people here are having sucess with? My girl is such a fussy eater it is hard to say what is 'working' and what is not. I really like first mate grain free chicken and blueberries and there is rumor going around that something in the blueberries prevents tear staining. Does anyone use angel eye or something similar? We seem to ebb and flow with how yucky our face gets around here... |
