Dragging hind Hi, I brought my 5 month old to the groomer on Friday and since returning I've noticed he has been dragging his hind, and it's still happening today. I looked and it doesn't seem like his bottom is burned. I wormed him on sept 8th but seen no traces of anything. The only time he has dragged his hind previously is when he had a dirty bottom, which is why I took him to the groomer. Is there anyway to tell if its his anal glands? Thanks! |
dog Be careful with groomers. I would be that groomer pinched his anals so hard it hurt and now he is hurting. I hate it when groomers abuse dogs just so they can get the dogs groomed and over with. I would never go back there and I would get a groomer to come to my house. You need to be there to see how these groomers treat your dog. If not, then insist you stand there and watch them groom or forget it and find someone you can trust. If his hind still hurts, go to the vet. I am sorry this happened, you take control, not some ignorant groomer |

It can simply be that his bum area got shaved & he has no hair there, it could be a little irritated or itchy from the shave. Did he have his anal glands expressed? If he had a dirty bottom, does that mean he has soft poopies? Then that's the problem, soft poopies do not help express anal glands. Either it wasn't expressed all the way or it caused a little irritation. You can always take him to the vet to check what's happening back there, they can express it internally if needed. Quote:

I have to agree with you mimimomo, there are both good groomers and bad. The funny thing is you can go into the same place over and over, and one time the grooming is great and the next it is what the heck. |
my Yorkie I have experinced this same thing with my yorkie, but found it was because he had some poop stuck to his fur after going to the bathroom. |
Did your little one have a sanitation cut? Were his glands expressed? My first thought would be irritation from being shaved down there... Sometime's it just feels funny and they'll scoot because of that. It doesn't necessarily mean they're in pain. If his glands were expressed, take him to the vet and have them checked. If they weren't expressed enough (or properly) that could be irritating as well. In the future, refrain from having groomers do that & take him to the vet for it instead. It's really quick and for the vet it's very simple. Hope his bum feels better ;) |
Could be razor burn, irritated or full anals, worms or something else itching or hurting his rectal area. Let the vet check him out and take a stool sample & a video of him doing it to the vet with you. |
Jess did that after her first grooming. I would say if it lasts more than a day call the vet. Jess stopped by day two. I think it just felt funny/weird to her.. |
