Help - Oreo has Diarrhea
 
My Oreo has had diarrehea for the last couple of days and I'm not sure why that is, its a dark brown color. He is 16 weeks old and weighs about 4.5ibs. He has been on the Blue Buffalo Life Protection (Small Breed) Puppy food for the last month or so and he likes it alot. He always cleans his bowl when I feed him. Any suggestions would be glady appreciated.

With a puppy that young, he should see a Vet. Also take in fecal smaple to it tested for worms.

Hope your baby is feeling better soon.

I agree. With a puppy and diarrhea continuing for 2 days, see your vet today.

Thanks. He will be at the vet in the morning for his last set of puppy vaccinations, so I will be able to have them check him out. As far as a fecal sample, it will be hard to get if his stool is not solid, can they still test it no matter what form it's in?

Yes it can still be tested if it is diarrhea. Just put it in a small baggie.

ALSO, if he is still not feeling well and still having diarrhea tomorrow when he goes for his vac's, DO NOT get them done while he still has the problem.

That is good to know. I will definitely make sure cancel the vaccinations if he still having the diarrhea. Funny thing is, he is acting normal. He eats and runs around like normal. The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is I bought him a new bully stick the other day and that might have upset his stomach. Any thoughts of that being the issue?

Thanks I will definitely remember that. I don't need to add more to the already existing condition. Funny thing is he still eats, plays, runs around. Only thing I think this could be is I bought him a new beef bully stick the other day and he has been tearing it up, could it be a bad stick?. Any thoughts on that being the issue?

I know a lot of people on here have had problems with their pups having diarrhea when eating bully sticks. Their tummy can't handle it. I would most certainly take it away from him at this time.

Will do. He hasn't had it since yesterday so hopefully his stomach will get better. I guess I might need to research bully sticks his stomach can tolerate. Thanks for quality responses!!

The very best thing for the runs is boiled chicken, white rice , and pumpkin. I would not get him his shots right now, and would put that bully stick away for sure. Good luck with your baby!

Okay. I did the chicken, rice, and pumpkin. I think I could of got away without the pumpkin though because I still didn't get a bowel movement until later in the day and some was firm and some was muddy like. I still took Oreo to the vet and got his vaccines, the vet checked him and he seemed normal...nothing out of the ordinary so I went ahead with the vaccinations...he didn't like them but he seems okay just a little sore. He was passing his stool more yesterday evening so at least he is doing something but hopefully today it gets better.

He hasn't lost his appetite and his demeaner hasn't change, so he is doing well. I just can't say that for his stomach yet.

stay away from the bullys if he had the runs after eating it. Jess can eat anything, carrots, beans, apples turkey, chicken, cheese, meat, but put a bully stick in front of her and its diarreah doody time

Okay its been almost a week and Oreo's stool is still mushy and soft. The vet said to give him rice and eggs mixed with a little his dry food so he doesn't go on a hunger strike when he is finally better and not getting the rice and eggs anymore. Another thing is I keep him in a pen in my bathroom since I live in an apartment and work during the day and I swear he smears his footsies in there on purpose so I have to clean them all the time.

Did you have his stool checked? This needs to be done to make sure he doesn't have any bacteria or parasites. IT can still be done even it is mushy.

Yes I forgot to mention that I had his stool checked yesterday and it came back normal.

Great, I'm glad it came back normal. Have you tried pumpkin, Out of can 1 tablespoon mixed with food has always helped. && yes, I wouldn't suggest anymore bully sticks..

I am reading on line that some dogs are getting sick on the Blue Buffalo. Go on line and read the stuff that is said. Lots of complaints. Perhaps you need to change that dogs food. I would because I am really questioning if what is on the bag is in the bag. Most dog foods are endorsed by the AAfco American Association Feed Control Organization. Blue does not have this on their bags. I wrote them-no response. I am really looking to change my dogs food, just studying the various foods. I have a senior that needs senior food. Hope this helps stop that runny poop.

I didn't think of this as the problem. I've heard tons of good stuff about BB from local friends who use it for their yorkies, but I'm wondering if that is the problem. I has been almost two weeks and Oreo's stool is still soft and mushy...this even after I had his stool checked, after given him rice and eggs with his dry food. I'm kind of at a lost here...I'm trying to avoid going back to the vet because he is still not acting abnormal. Based on your comment, I will check into the BB issues and see what I see. I may switch back to the Eukunuba since that is what he started on. Anymore suggestions I sure would appreciate it.

I changed Oreo's food back to Eukanuba (I mixed it in with his BB to ease him back on it), and this morning his stool was firm...YEAAAAAAAH!!! Thank you Sandy for that recommendation. Surprisingly it only took one feeding to get his system back right.
