Leba III or PetzLife? I know there are a zillion threads about this...but most of them are pre-2009. I was wondering if anyone has tried both? I'm trying to figure out which one to buy & I'm curious if Leba III is really worth the extra money. I'm also worried that my pups will freak out from the spray of Leba III vs. a gel. I'd rather not use a water additive. Maybe I'm weird, but I'd rather their drinking water be "pure". None of my pups have heavy tartar. I'm just looking to prevent build up & avoid anesthesia and a dental. |
I have used Leba III on Cooper since he was a pup. He's 5 now and never had a dental. I think it's better for prevention rather than for after-the-fact tartar. He's going for his first dental this year but all the vets I've been to say he looks great. Max, too has been using it for 3 years and there is very little plaque or tartar on his teeth. The boys don't love the spray but its a fast process and they are ok with it |
Thanks! I wish it came in a gel. But it's $47 on Amazon, so I think I'll try it. Do you brush at all to help the process at all? And do you spray the Leba III on his tongue? I'm just thinking about the quickest way to spray without a freak out. It's not necessary to spray it on the gumline or anything, right? As long as it mixes with their saliva? |

No build up yet. And as much as possible, I'd like to keep it that way. I'm just nervous about putting them under. Especially my little 4-pounder. My other two are 8 pounds...but I even get nervous when my 100lb Lab needs anesthesia. I might brush every couple of days without toothpaste. I don't want to mess up the active ingredients in Leba by using another product. It'll just be hard for me to break the habit, you know? Then maybe I'll go down to twice a week. It gets great reviews all over the web. I wish someone made a people spray ;) Lol. Thanks so much for the feedback!! |
You are very welcome! For whatever reason I think I'm one of the only people on YT that uses Leba III:confused: It does have alcohol in it, which is a controversial ingredient. However, my dogs are doing great on it. My vet recommended to me a non-anesthetic dental. I'm undecided. Yes, another controversial topic. I don't have the info on hand, but it's a company that visits vet offices that does dentals without the use of anesthesia (only for very cooperative dogs). I haven't decided yet what I want to to do. Max is 16 pounds and Cooper 11, but it's still scary, like you said. |
Well...I don't think any of my dogs would fall under the "very cooperative" category. ;) I'll just try my best to keep their little chompers clean so I won't have to worry about it for a few years. And yeah...I read all about the controversial ingredients online. It's always SOMETHING. You know? For me, the benefits outweigh the controversy. I just bought it!! I always get nervous when I click "Place Your Order". Lol. I'll probably update/review down the road. Glad to know you're having such positive results. Fingers crossed it's the same for us. :) |
I have used both and I personally didnt notice the differen between the two. Both my dogs are two years old right now and I brush their teeth daily also so they have clean teeth. Now, I just brush their teeth once a day and I periodically use petzlife when I didn't have time to brush their teeth. |
Not a fan of either. Don't forget to read the instructions carefully. Leba requires withholding water and food for two hours daily at first as well as preventing grooming for an hour. I'm pretty lazy and my kids like water on demand, so that wouldn't work here. I personally won't use a product with alcohol in it as often as this needs to be used. At least one boarded dentist does not like the idea. And the vets I know choose the best products for their own pups. Neither of these appeal to them, nor has my dental nut vet read anything significantregarding good effect or heard anything positive from her BC dental mentor. You aren't supposed to use other products at the same time (with Leba, don't know about Petzlife). Same as the Sanos dental sealant. I won't lock myself out of using toothpaste and OraVet. The studies just aren't there to prove to my satisfaction that these products are better. So while they may have some benefits I don't think they outweigh the benefits of brushing and dentals as needed. |
My vet recommends using Leba IiI. I've read about the alcohol on YT, but my vet says he's had a lot of success with it. |
I've used both and thought they did nothing. I was also advised not to use them by a vet dentist. I do like healthy mouth water additive. |
I also wanted to add -- Winston who is 2 has had three dentals, two by a vet dentist, and the dog makes tartar on his teeth very fast. He had a dental about 5 or 6 weeks ago tartar is forming even with healthy mouth and daily brushing. This dog eats the same diet as my other boys who form little to no tartar. Barney who is 13 has had one dental in his life, has no tartar and no gum issues. It's all about genetics in my view. My plan is an annual dental for Winston. If I can do home care and stretch it to 18 months I will but it isn't looking promising :( |
I have been using PlaqClnz gel. It has no alcohol. Even with feeding PMR, frozen, and complex meals like deer spine, I still cannot keep the 2 upper canines clear of plaque. The rest of the teeth are perfect. I normally brush with coconut oil and follow up with PlaqClnz. My dog has genetically horrible teeth, however, he has not had a dental in over 2 years. I got my Leba in the mail yesterday & used it for the first time last night. They don't love the spray, but they tolerate it. I applied it right before bedtime when they were dozing off, so I wouldn't have to worry about them eating or drinking. I'm going to evaluate when I finish this bottle. @WyliesMom - I was actually looking into Healthy Mouth. I like that it's VOHC accepted. But I'm just not a fan of water additives.
