How hot is too hot for puppy to be outside? When I start my new gardening job on the 19th, I may be able to bring Benji with me some days. I would likely take him with me in the morning until my lunch break, and then bring him back home and kennel him until I get back from work. The longest he would be with me outdoors is 3-4 hours. Fortunately, it seems like we're done with the 90+ degree weather for the summer. It's looking like we should be in the 80s most days. I'm just wondering how hot is too hot for my 3-4 pound puppy to be outside with me for a few hours? He would be under a tree in partly shade. It would be from about 9 am to noon. And I have a huge thermos that keeps water very cold. I will bring his water bowl obviously and share my cold water with him. I would probably start off by bringing him on a cooler day and see how he does, but I'm just wondering what temps feel hot to a Yorkie/Silky-Poo puppy? OH and the reason I'm not sure on his weight is because my kitchen scale at home said 3 pounds 4 ounces, and the vet's scale said 4 pounds! I have a hard time believing he's already 4 pounds, and I know I've calibrated my scale and it should be accurate?! If he's already 4 pounds at 10 weeks he's gonna end up a lot bigger than I thought! lol |

Benji is so cute! Mine don't do well being outside in 80+ degrees for very long so I can't say how he would do. Hopefully others can give you some advice. |
This is just me and for my girl's. They are not outside any longer than 15 minutes in temps over 80. With him being just a puppy, I wouldn't keep him out the heat too long. Your Benji is just so cute. |
Roxy my 4 pounder loves hot weather. She will sun bath on the black driveway while everyone else runs for the shade. It depends on your dog. Buddy my 95 pound golden will sit all day outside under a tree as long as a person is outside, too. It depends on Cozy's moods- Some days she wants the piece and quiet of everyone outside and her sleeping in front of a fan. Lucy will stay out on hot days for 5 minutes and then she is done. I don't use Central air- Just fans. As long as mine have access to a big bowl of cold/cool water I don't worry too much. |
Mine loves to lay on the deck for about 5 minutes in 80 degrees but after that she doesn't go out side unless its necessary she is such an a/c baby lol. He is so flippin cute! I would just take him once and see how he does and keep an eye on him then if he does ok keep taking him. |
Thanks everyone for the input! I will bring him when I can and if he doesn't do well I can always take my lunch early and bring him home. :). I will also try to post more pics soon- he is pretty adorable! ;) |
I would make sure to have a towel or something to wet down Benji if he seems to be on the warm side. We took ours boating and would dunk them in the water to make sure that they wouldnt get over heated. Benji is adorable. |
My 4 have been raised in warm tropical weather, and have not problem being outside all day when we are on the patio or pool. They have shade, and water available and even on days up to 90 degrees they do fine. They also go out and lay in the sun often, all by themselves. BUT, they have been raised like this for 4-5 years, and have never experienced cold temps or air conditioning. Just watch him and provide shade and water, and if he appears to be panting too much, pour some water on him or a wet towel. BTW he sure is a cutie, and I think he would have fun going to work with you. |
