VacciCheck Antibody Test Kit Anyone heard of VacciCheck Antibody Test Kit? My M&M's are due for their vaccines soon and I am worried about side effects that some have experienced with over vaccinating our fluffs. I was looking into titter and can across VacciCheck which is suppose to be cheaper than titer and is approved by USDA. Any one of you tried this or even heard about this? Below are some articles about it: The World Small Animal Veterinary Association Recommends Canine VacciCheck - WSJ.com Biogal Home - Veterinary Supplies | Antibody Tests Vet Kits | Tools for Veterinary Diagnosis |
No but it sounds interesting. |
We do the titers, but I would be worried about how good this one is. Last time both of the boys came back as not having any antibodies for one of the shots, and my vet thought it was suspicious since both of the boys cam back negative. He took more blood and set to a different lab and sure enough they were fine. So I guess I would want to know how this compares with the other tests. |

My vet charged $70 for the distemper/parvovirus titer three months ago. |
Yes and that I wonder about that a lot. By pricing the titer test well beyond a shot, is there not some discouragement for getting titers instead of mindlessly going with another booster that may not be needed? Vets here that I see in Canada, and that are only 3 or 5 vets, don't encourage titering nor discourage it, they will do it if and only """if""" you ask for it. I think vets need to re-think a few things. If you want to truly be in the forefront of animal well-being, then keep up to date on the latest research, and continue training for your CEU's. Oh whoops I've not see on either the USA site or Canadian site, the requirements for fully qualified vets to keep current on learning. Every RHPA regulated health professional in Ontario, all has a CEU program. Do vets have one? |

Do vets really decide on the costs? My vet had to send it to an independent laboratory for testing, wouldn't they decide the cost? I imagine the cost for giving the injection and the cost for taking the blood would be similar. |

To the OP, I wasn't pleased with titer results and think it can sometimes be a waste of money. |
