Canine Caviar/Orijen I have ordered Coco CC and it should be arriving tomorrow. I have been reading reviews on Orijen and they are phenomenal. I really hope I didn't make a mistake. I know many people rave about CC. I don't know that one is better than the other, guess I will just wait and see if she likes CC. I am going to get her some of Orijen's freeze dried snacks:thumbup: |
I feed Orijen Regional Red. My pups do well very on it. That being said, each dog is different. I'm sure there are a lot of dogs out there don't do as well on Orijen as mine do. Personally, I don't think that any one food is "better" than any another...with the exception of a lot of grocery store brands that contain some really unhealthy ingredients. I also think that a company's quality control/recall history is extremely important. It really depends on what's important to you & works best for each individual dog. |
I am feeding CC Lamb and pearl millet. Everyone has their opinion. I looked at the ingredients and this is the one I felt was best brand for Galen. He was eating California Natural Lamb and Rice which was recalled way too much for me. The next time I am going to try one of the other flavors. I did not want to shock his little system with a different protein with a direct change. |
You probably can't go wrong with either food, they're both good foods. When I fed kibble, I used to feed Orijen and really liked it for my kiddos. |
I know they are both great foods. And I do want what is best for Coco along with something that she loves to eat. I love Mexican food and of course I want to eat at a good restaurant that serves it so that's how i want her to feel when she eats her food. If she doesn't care for CC then my next try will be Orijen. I had just never discovered how good it's supposed to be until after I ordered CC. I'm hopeful that she will love the CC. She eats the Blue Wilderness but I don't think she's wild about it. CC will be arriving today so we shall see what happens within the next week.:) |
Please let us know how she does with CC! I'm debating on getting Orijen or CC too! |
We love CC over here  |

I cannot agree more. Somehow my father's AKC championed Chows survived on Purina Dog Chow. I think Alpo was the other choice. There were so few choices in the 60's but these dogs survived. I can remember when Ken L Burgers and Gaines Burgers hit the grocer's shelves. Our dogs thought they had found fine dining. All kidding aside, it is good that people care what their dogs eat. Some dogs do better with less or no grain, others are fine with any amount. Each dog is different so try a food that you believe has good quality control and if your dog likes it without any weight, allergy or adverse effects then stay with it. I prepare my own dog food. I have dogs with special needs and I find it easy to prepare. They seem to like it. |
We give CC a  here! Teddy loves it and is thriving on it! :) |
dog Some dog foods have a very high protein count. Anyone out there very know how much protein a dog should be getting? I am concerned about this and reluctant to use a food high in protein. |
I feed my girls Canine Caviar and they are doing really good on it. |
dog I learned a little more about dog food. If the bag has AAFCO on it that means the American Association Of Feed Control endorses it. If it does not then there is no guarantee what is in the bag is what you are getting. Interesting. How do you know with all that fancy advertising that you are getting quality food or just a bunch of hype and low quality food? I want to trust a co. to do what they publish. Our Yorkies are precious and we want the best food for them. Research this before you buy dog food. |
I must really have a picky eater, cause I bought (2) bags of CC and she won't eat either one...Chicken & pearl..she won't eat, so then I bought a bag of Open Sky and she doesn't like that one either...so frustrating....I give her now weruva canned...mixed with some Stella & Chewy's chicken, so far she's picking enough of it to get it down...but I'm sure she'll be turning her nose up at it soon, then I'll be on to something else....tried Evangers, Great Life, Dr.Tim's, Nutrisca, Merrick....Canine Caviar, Sojos, Honest Kitchen, now I'm at Stella & Chewys and Weruva....how can she not like everything!.....oh well...feed store has every kibble and canned food under the sun....so I'll just keep stocking my pantry I guess:( |
I recently switched to CC. I have a sensitive food allergy boy and he is doing great on it. I only wish it was carried in stores, I have to order it online. I think you should just go with what works for you. @yorkiespirit- you might want to try a timed feeding schedule. Pick a food you like, leave it down for 20-30 minutes and then pick it up. Your pup may be getting spoiled thinking every time it turns it nose up you will offer it something else. Your dog probably won't starve itself, feeding all those different foods may cause stomach issues- believe me when I say you don't want those. |
